Stewarts comments...

I don't post in the NASCAR thread much, if at all, mostly because I lost my taste for what has happened in the last few years. In fact I had another post written but I started over because I got carried away. So simply stated, personally I think Tony is right on. To me NASCAR is lost and has gone the way of pro 'rasling. My 2 cents.

I've watched Nascar since the early 60s and I have to believe the quality has gone down hill since the early 90's.The racing isn't the same and everyone should have to qualify or go home, forget owner points! Throw out half of the rules that they have and let them race anything go like they did when they were Bootlegging. shocked.giflaugh.gif

Basically what Tony got fined for was not showing up in the media center after last week's race. They had the VP of Media relations on TV today and while he didn't agree with what Tony said, he was OK with Tony's comments has he has the right to his opinion. However because of his lack of respect and conduct after the race was what started the whole thing rolling. I like Tony , he is a racer's racer, not a rolling mouth of advertisement. They also invited him up into the control tower for a Busch race, which is more of a privilage and then he can see how the circus is ran grin.gif

so it ISN'T just me that thinks this way. I truley believe that NASCAR has pretty much lost it's died in the wool fans and now mostly bandwagon fans. If Jr., Stewart and Gordon retired tomorrow how many "fans" would stick around? They seem to spend all the time and money making the drivers more marketable instead of marketing the sport. They need to figure out that this current crop of drivers will leave someday, and most will probably retire about the same time since most are within 10 years of each other.

I brought up the phantom cautions weeks ago and was blasted. At least Stewart is speaking for the fans who feel the same way. The sport has gone downhill since the #3 left. I'm not saying that because I am a #3 fan, but rather I believe he had a lot of influence on the head honchos up in the tower and how the sport should run. Now that Brain (yes I spelled that on purpose) France is running the show, it's becoming a joke.

Tony has always said what is on his mind.

I think that is why there is always a mike in his face.

As for the comments there seems to be a lack of leadership in NASCAR. We all know what happens when the inmates run the show.

I hope you all have a great weekend and get to get out and enjoy the weather.

I think it started going down before 3 left it just wasn't as obvious.

Exactly.....it would the same if we were still lucky enough to have Senior with us.

The one or two phantom cautions that have arisen are the least of Nascars problems and have nothing to do with the waning interest and decline of Nacsar racing all the cautions do really is give the Hendrick haters something to whine about when they win.

I thought about it a bit more and there doesn't seem the characters there was before. Everyone is so PC and is scared they will PO the sponsor, fans or NASCAR. That's why I like Stewart he'll say whats on his mind good or bad. I don't like Kurt Busch but when he "mooned" Jimmy Spenser at Indy I about lost it. Could you imagine the fines and loss of points NACSAR would impose on an Allison/Yarborogh rematch. How about Jocko Flocko as a passenger. I guess I don't like the downtown image NASCAR is trying to create. Pretty soon they'll be driving in firesuits from the mens warehouse. wink.gif

I am a huge Stewart fan and could not be happier that he made those comments. I have alway been one to watch nearly every second of a races and would record it if I could not watching it live. After the Atlanta race this year with the late caution that basically set up Jimmie Johnson win I have not watch a whole race yet. I still love racing but with nascar rating dropping again this year it seem more and more obvoius nascar is sticking their nose it to race out comes. In the last 5 years I've been to Talledega and Bristol and nascar puts on a great show, but when every race comes down to a late caution for debris it starts to make you wonder if its worth the price to go see these races. I'm tired of debris cautions determining the race. Why did they not put out a red flag at Talledaga at the end of the race. Could it be Gordon was one of the few that was sure he had enough fuel. My 2 cents
