To catch a walleye from the dock?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone out there have a good method to catch walleye from the dock? About half the weekends this summer, I am not going to have access to a boat, so I was wondering if there was a presentation that I could use from the end of the dock.

Shiner under a slip bobber?

Plastics?

Them are a few ideas, you could also try a night crawler, crank bait, If the walleyes are present in the area you wont catch them, if they are keep trying, untill they tell you what works!

That was going to be my suggestion also....night fishing. I lived a year in the Grand Rapids area on a lake without a boat. Fished off the dock at night casting stick baits and caught a good number of walleyes including my first ever 28"+ 'eye (a 29.5"er). Fish towards sunset and for another hour or two afterwards. Maybe you'll be surprised! wink.gif

my dock routine is either bobber over the weed line, or a lindy style set up w/ crawler or minnow on the bottom out past the weed line. Fortunate to have good dock placement, close to drop off and close to weedline.

If you have access to small-medium sized rivers they can be hot too. On the minnesota back home I find flooded feeder creeks usually right after opener and I fish right from shore. Ive caugh a limit of eyes in 30 mins on a particular spot where all I had to do was strip out 8 feet of line and cane pole style hop the jig along the bank and whap! granted they were all 15-17 inches but perfect eaters! Also river inlets or outlets from lakes can be hot too. On tetonka in southern mn, The cannon river outlet holds some fish very catchable in shallow water esp after dark. On the rum river in anoka, we caught our own minnows and pitched a catfish type rig ( heavy sinker, hook 2-5 feet, up) with a chub and caught nice eyes as the minnow slowly drifted into a pool or along a current seam. As for lakes You can wade shallow rock or gravel and cast raps or jigs or as TO said, Slip bobber after dark. dont over look swimming beaches if no one is around. Go n get em! grin.gif
