Tried on the Leech area forum and got nada....someone out there knows something:) I'll be working on leech a few days this summer and want to bring the boat along and do some muskie fishing. Anyone with some info to get me started? How about a good local guide? Thanks all

Jim Murphy, Al Maas, Dan Craven, Jack Shriver, just to name a few excellent musky guides on Leech.

What time of year do you anticipate being there? Time of year is a huge thing on Leech on putting together a game plan on where to fish. They can be anywhere. But given the time of year, some areas may be better options.

Leech is a huge body of water that can get ugly in a hurry. So the kind of boat you have could dictate where to fish as well.

Thanks for the reply AWH. I just bumped up to a 20' fiberglass boat, so I'm looking to see what she can handle:) I know I'll be there as season opens, so thats my focus at first. After that, I'm not sure, but possibly every few weeks throuhout the summer/fall. Thanks for any insight you can give, and for the guides names as well.

Your boat should be able to handle most conditions out there. Although it's always advisable to use caution on big water like Leech.

Early in the year can be a tough one out there. If you know where you have spawning areas, green weeds in those areas will typically hold fish. Most people don't encounter much for consistent action on Leech until about early to mid July.

Portage and Sucker Bays are both good early season candidates (and all year long). Both have good weeds that you can concentrate on, although weeds have become more sparse lately. The weeds in the Grand View flats area can be worth hitting too.

Walker Bay is deep and clear. Fish can be caught there all year long, but fall is typcially better. You can also encounter a good suspended bite there.

Come mid summer, rocks are a great option on this lake and there's no shortage on the main lake. The most well known are in the Pelican Island area. But there's many more rocky areas that could take you all summer long to even begin to learn.

If you've never fished Leech before, I would highly recommend a guide to get you started and shorten the learning curve. All musky lakes tend to be "moody" when it comes to what they can produce on the musky end of things. But Leech might just be about as moody as there is.

I haven't fished Leech yet but the info that AWH gave you is the way that I am planning on attacking it this summer.

Green Emerging weeds early and Rocks when we get into Mid July. All the guides mentioned are quality guides and I have heard nothing but good things.

Leech is a big body of water, and as AWH stated, it can be pretty finicky at times. However, the rewards that she can give you are spectacular. She will make you put in your work, but it is such an awesome fishery. My best luck has always come off of Two Points, but it can get pretty crowded up there sometimes. I like Sucker Bay as well, but there are so many good spots, you never know where you will find one.

I was up by two points one time last summer...could only find weeds up close to shore.. was there ever a distinct weed edge out deeper there?
