Fiberglass poles or not?

I have been looking for a new tent for the family. I was woundering if anyone knows if it is worth the extra money to get aluminum poles or are the fiberglass poles just fine. I want a good tent and if I need to pay a bit more for the poles I will.

Thanks, LovenLifeGuy

I had a eureka tetrogon with fiberglass poles and they really didn't stand up very well, small cracks & ferrules slightly bent. I am very easy on equipment, it was not from lack of care, just normal use.

Get aluminum, the poles will last a lot longer than fiberglass. Plus, they are lighter in weight than fiberglass. I swore off fiberglass poles and tent pole sleeves a long time ago, aluminum and clips for me these days.

Where aluminum really shines is when the temps drop. Fiberglass poles will break in cold weather where aluminum will not. The other thing about aluminum poles is that they are easiler to patch. Just slip a sleeve over the damaged or broken spot and you are good to go. That being said, I have two tents with fiberglass poles and have had zero problems. They are 6 -7 years old and get used 15 - 20 times per year and really have no signs of wear whatsoever.
