Heartman
Intend to move my batteries up front - what gauge wire do I need to run back to my 75 Merc, and elec trolling motor on the transom? Do I need 4 gauge, or will 6 gauge wire do?
0 marine_man
Why are you moving the starting battery too? I'd be real inclined to leave that in the back of the boat to save a little cash.In regard to the trolling motor, while I haven't done the calculation, I believe that it was discussed at great length in past threads, and that 4 Gauge was found to be acceptable. If I were you I'd reconsider moving the starting battery.marine_man
0 smallieobsession
I too am thinking about moving my starting battery up front...let me explain.I have a little 14ft lund w/25hp elec start tiller motor. With the motor, the gas tank, the battery and ME - @ about 275lbs - in the back I'm looking for a way to move some weight forward. Right now I have a small deep cycle up front under the castiing deck to run a bow mount trolling motor and then have a pretty good sized dual purpose starting/deep cycle in back that I use to start the engine of course and to also run a transom mount trolling motor. Thinking I would just swap the big dual purpose to the front and run some heavy wire (4 or 6 guauge) to the rear of the boat for starting engine and the running the transom mount trolling battery. Anyone have some thoughts, opinions or advice on this? Seems like every pound that I can move forward will help and I don't have a good spot to move the gas tank so the 45lb bttery is next on my list.Much appreciated! 0 Cabela10
6-gauge wire is standard in all boats and the gauge you see in all bass boats.
