New Electronics for Boat

Daze Off

Question

I am going to re-outfit my boat's electronics this spring and would like some opinions and ideas. I fish mostly for bass out of a Lund Explorer single console.

Currently I have a Garmin 160 on the console and an Eagle 480 on the bow/trolling motor. I use an H2Oc for GPS.

I would like to have Sonar/GPS units at both the locations and was thinking of Lowrance 520/522c's at each place. I want color at both places too. Would I need two separate GPS pucks? One transducer for sonar would go on the back and one on the trolling motor. Any problems with doing something like that? Any better ideas - budget is $1,000 - $1,300 or so.

Can they be linked to share a chip like Lakemaster or Navionics?

Thanks for your technical support!!!

Daze off,

You can link everything together through Lowrancenet. Both GPS' can share the same puck and waypoints. They are not able to share chips. You might get some interference between the ducers as they would both be transmitting at the same MHZ, it would probably be minimal though as they would be some distance away from each other. The amount of interference is also dependent on bottom structure and depth of water.

Paul -

Thanks for the response! What is involved in setting up this link between the two units? I'm guessing that I could simply switch the chip from one unit to another without a problem rather than buy two chips, correct?

As for the transducers, would it be better to not use the identical units and go with another Lowrance model for one of them? Would that reduce the possibility of interference? Would different units still be able to share trails and waypoints, etc?

Daze Off (daze is apparently "on" when it comes to electronics)
