Bullhead trapping

Absolutetly Harvey SD is doing it right now he just buys the Frabill minnow cylindrical traps from FleetFarm he expands the openings to 1 1/2" which is the largest legal opening for a minnow trap in Minnesota.

Puts a few in scattered areas until he finds a good spot and then bunches them up.

You could do a home made trap also.

Harvey, you can get all the bait size bullheads you want in a couple of weeks. the county park on the west side of clear lake by Gibbon has a little spill (Contact Us Please). Last year you could scoop them out by the bucket fulls if you wanted.

Chub killer; Sounds just like my set up! I wont say where it is but with a seine in waist deep or shallower water I get hundreds and with the 7" limit I sort em and there all max size.If it would go to 10" the same their there too.I now use a dip net long handle most times 1 dip there so thick I've got my bait! Harvey I bet you'll love the spot.

i got nothing wrong with fishing for the little guys. i kind of enjoy it. just as good as panfish, maybe a little better, and easy too. a friend of mine and i always have a little contest to see who gets the most. only downside is all the little, little ones you get.

I'm not sure thats a problem. Couple cat guys I know prefer smaller bullheads (5-6"). I know "dtro" personally met a 50lb flathead that ate a very smallish bullhead. smile.gif

I couldn't agree more Mr. Hanson.

Many of the larger cat's that I have caught have been on the 5-6" bullies. They seem to work better than the 6 7/8" grin.gif ones for me. Easier to peg down for one thing. It sure is cool to catch some of those bigger bullies tho.
