new truck damaged

larryz

Question

I bought an 07 truck and took it in to a shop to have a sprayed in bedliner put in. When I went to pick up the truck I found several dents in the top of the box bed rails. The owner made some calls and lined me up with a guy that does paintless dent removal. To make a long story short the guy did a pretty good job but I can still see where the dents were. The truck had approx. 400 miles on it. I have not paid anyone yet. What would you do at this point?

Its up to you what you feel comfortable with, if you dont mind the fact there are a few dings in your new truck, talk to the place that put the liner in and see if they will give the liner job to you at no charge do to the damage that was done. If you dont want to deal with the dings on your new truck, make them repair it correctly, then pay them full for the liner.

Another option is to have the spray-in liner extend over top the box rails to cover these dents. The Line-X stuff is fine enough that it looks pretty decent but I don't know what brand you had done. I've seen some trucks that have it and was surprised because I didn't think that having it over the rails would look that great on a lighter colored truck but it doesn't look too bad.

Sorry to hear about the dents, but if they hadn't done it you certainly would have scratched and dented it in time. Use this as a reason to get the rails and top of tailgate covered at their expense. You won't regret it, and there are more and more trucks around with the rails sprayed that it won't stick out.

I wouldn't report anyone who is willing to fix their mistakes. Accidents happen. Most good business owners are more then willing to fix the problem, just like this guy has done so far. One unhappy costomer is a loss of at least 10 because he/she will tell at least that many other people Give the guy a chance to make things right. Plus I would add that when you go in and talk to him be nice. I'm always more willing to make things right with someone who is nice.

Good idea scumfrog, although I just want to say BBB didn't help me out with a gas station in Wisconsin. They charged 70 cents more per gallon on E85 than what they advertised (I had already pumped the gas not looking at the pump). I took photos, documented the whole thing, talked to their sneaky manager. I'm still miffed about the thing and it was two years ago. Talk about screwy, don't get me started....

Thanks for all the responses guys. It is a Rhino Liner. I am pretty disappointed to have the first dents put in by someone other than me and at 400 miles! I am thinking seriously about bed rail caps. I realize accidents happen. But I am thinking that the bed liner cost should be discounted the cost of the dent removal plus the caps. I do not want painting done. Is this not reasonable? Thanks!

Why would you compromise at all on a brand new truck with 400 miles?

The vendor has a resposibility to make PROPER repairs, no matter the cost. That does NOT mean dentless repair, it means a body shop or the dealer.

Be nice, but be firm with this place. They have a responsibility to take care of this.

Exactly... it's what they pay insurance for.
