Scott K
Im going to be in Chicago in the middle of july, I want to hit the big lake for some big eyes, and I want a charter/guide for a day, to get me on a record walleye! Any suggestions??
!wall-i-king
well if you are going to be in Chicago I would definitely not recommend fishing the lake for walleyes because there aren't any in the lake on the south end. The biggest fishery in the lake is the salmon population however there are some warm water fish present, as I said before walleyes are not among them. If you want a charter boat for Salmon I work on one called the Kristy Lynn. Just do a search for it and you will find some interesting stuff. Bob Horn
If you want walleyes from Lake Michigan I would go to Indiana or Michigan waters. Our waters aren't know for walleyes.
Doop
Just curious....what warm water species do you have on your end?
!wall-i-king
We have a really good perch fishery on this end with lots of fish in the 14"+ range. Also the bass fishing around is very good particularly smallmouths. Other than that we have most other species in the harbors but not in the main lake. Doop
Do you have northern pike? I had heard once they were in certain harbors....but is there a fishable population of them?
!wall-i-king
All of the harbors have pike in them but are not really a large population. They can be caught, especially through the ice, but are still around.
Scott K
14 + inch perch? wow sounds good. I will be in town on july 13-15, would I need to reserve a guide trip for this time period, or is there walk up and fish that day type of thing? !wall-i-king
I have some bad news for you.....that is right in the middle of the closed season for perch. For some reason or another this state closes it in the month of July. But if you want to get bass you can find them from shore but I would recommend taking a charter if you really want to have some fun. I work on one and we catch a lot of big fish especially in the time frame that you are going to be around. If you want some more information send me an e-mail at [email protected] I hope to hear from you
Bob Horn
According the the reg book the season closing in July is still up in the air. I don't for see it changing but you never know. It's closed for spawning.
