Best way to transport dogs?

Kylersk

Question

We have a family vacation planned this summer and since I just bought a boat, I do not think our Ford Winstar can or should tow the boat. So, I told my wife that we'll prolly have to take the truck, but she's not too keen on the idea of our 2 dogs (boxers) riding in back. I told her it's probably safer having them ride in the back (in kennel) than in the van and more than likely sitting on her lap.

Anyways, what are your thoughts on the subject?

Kennels are the only way to go when transporting. I would suggest the plastic vari-kennel type ones. The wire crates are lighter, cooler and break down smaller, but they do not give as much protection for the dogs in a crash situation. Airlines only allow plastic for this reason.

Truck is the way to go and kennels is what we do all summer for our camping excursions. Tuck it close to the cab and use some tie downs to make sure it doesn't move around. Stopp every 2 hours or so, depending on the temp, and they will be fine. I have 2 dogs myself, a lab and springer, and I just put them in one kennel and have never had a problem.

Good luck,

BHS

Thanks Vermillionfox... I think it was you who suggested life of riley? I love lake vermillion, a bunch of guys and I rent houseboats late fall and have a blast. Anways, the owners of LoR were on vacation and they didnt get back to me until after my wife (lets be honest, she's the one who wears the pants) made her decision on where to stay. cool.gif
