Lowrance LCX-17 Sonar/GPS Combo

I am looking to finally invest in a sonar/gps combo unit. I have always had seperate units for each. I see Cabela's and a few other places have the Lowrance LCX-17 Sonar/GPS combo on sale for $499 (they say regularly $899). I am guessing this unit is being replaced by newer models and color units. Does anybody have this Lowrance and have any comments on it? Would you suggest another Lowrance model? I would prefer to spend less than $1,000. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I bought the same one for the bow a month or so ago, havn't hooked it up yet but it should be a nice unit for the money.

Bascially this is the same unit as the color LCX 25 and 26HD (different then the HD because it doesnt have the installed maps into the unit)... Just lacks the color TFT screen.. Very nice unit and it is the one I run on my boat.. For that price it is a steal...

I have the LCX 25C and love it, which I got at Cabelas for about $4-500.00ish off. Same deal you are looking at since they are both discontinued. I actually went there intending on buying the LCX 17 and walked out with the 25C. I also have the LMS 334C. They both are gps/sonar combos. I dont see a problem with the combo other that if 1 goes so does the other.

I have had black/white in the past and really like the color. It is much easier to see in the bright sunlight. But, for the price you cant go wrong.

The x17 has been that that price since fall.Its a very good price for that graph.As the other posts have stated I also bought the x25,I spent 1050 on it last year.You may want to wait to see what kind of prices are at the NW sports show.I dont think the x17 will go back up in price and you may find a better deal on color at the show.I didnt think color would make that much of a difference but man was I wrong.For one you can easily see bottom transitions with color...my 2 cents

I would go color, there's a reason that unit is being discounted so much and for so long, and it's because of the screen. And given what you said you have room in your budget.

If you're willing to go with a monochrome screen, the 17 is a good unit.
