Sartell Angler
I had a thing for work but my bro (Flowage Tamer) hit the Aberdeen / Redfield area and along with a buddy of ours managed 25 geese in two days of sneaking/ pass shooting. Actually they hunted all day Friday and until 5pm yesterday. They shot everything--some juvies, a couple nice blues, some nice adult snows, and some rosses geese. I had never seen them up close before so when they got back it was awesome to compare them. I'm hoping to go this upcoming weekend if the birds are still around and I can find some buddies to go with. Would love to do a decoy hunt. They said the snowline was around Watertown I think.SA/wdw
IceHawk
Sartell- If you get a group together and head out there let me know and we can exchange cell numbers. My group of 8 are leaving early Thursday morning for our first 4 day decoy hunt. We more than likely will be hunting that same area as I have a lot of land to hunt in that area. We can exchange bird info and maybe meet up in the evening for a little night life!
stretch
we just got back from the faulkton area. that is just in between redfield and ipswich south dakota. we ended up with 262 geese in 2 days. we had 12 guys and all we ended up doing was jump shooting and pass shooting. it seemed like alot of the geese headed north of ipswich and aberdean. but we probaly seen over a million geese in two days. Roosterslayer05
Im headin out to SD on wensday for my first snow goose hunt, Im going to be pass shootin/jump shooting. Any tips for a novice? When you shot your geese pass shooting where you by a roost or were you pass shooting out in the fields?
stretch
find where they are feeding in two fields that are within a mile apart and sit in a ditch or fence row. that worked good for us. or just try and seek up on them when they are in a pond or out in the field. if possible try using a cow decoy. they work also. eyehead
When we were in North Dakota last year, we watched two guys sneak up on about a 1000 honkers. They had a big mirror with handles on the back and they both walked behind that as they snuck up on them. It looked pretty funny but they got about 20 yards from them when they let loose. Defienitly going to try it out sometime.
poutpro
My brother in law was saying that his buddy makes the mirrors, and I was thinking about trying one out.
Adam Steinberg
I hunted SD from 3:30 on the 9th until 11:30 on the 11th with a budy of mine and we were able to take 40 doing sneeks. This was around the Tyndal area. I was also out there from the 15th through the 17th and hunted east and northeast of Huron. We only got 10 while doing sneeks but was able to sit in some dekoys for a day and five of us shot 31. There was geese all over the place and so were the hunters. I stayed at the dakota inn in Huron and it was full with hunters. Two of the guys that I was hunting with stayed until the 20th and said there were still a lot of birds just northeast of Huron. huntnfish
Do a search for the shadow shield and you can get an idea of what one looks like.
