Liar
A friend of mine and I are going to take our kids to the Chamberlain area on their spring break for some walleye fishing. I fish the mississippi, pool 4 over here, so I am somewhat familiar with river tactics. Are the standard jig/minnow and plastics used on the river? What can we expect for water conditions? Should we plan on fishing rip rap and feeder creeks? Any help would be appreciated. Trying to find a good bite of fish for the kids (13-16 yrs old). I'll try to ask even more questions on my next post Thanks, Dan
Rost
You'll find that people are using all kinds of methods to catch their fish. Some will be pulling leadcore, some will be lindy rigging, and some will be casting jigs or cranks. There are a few areas that hold fish year after year. They won't be hard top find because there will be quite a few boats around these areas. Just ask the bait shop owner which direction to go. However, it's quite possible to find your own fish. My favorite way to fish chamberlain is to cast the shale bluffs. The PWT will be there at that time as well. Just follow Ron Seelhoff around. Sportland_Bait
We fish the Chamberlain area quite a bit each spring. This year during the first week of April most of the fish will be hanging on the edges of the river channel. Most fish are caught vertical jigging with a fathead minnow, a 3/8oz jig should do the trick. Later in April the fish will move up onto the shallow shale blufs and rip-rap areas. The pre-spawn bite can be very good out there. 30-80 fish days are pretty common. Just work slow and stay vertical with your jigs. A good starting point is to fish the outside bends of the river channel as you head north out of Chamberlain. You will see the packs of boats. We were out there last week, there are lots of 15-19 inchers on the bite. Good Luck.Jason Erlandson

Sportland_Bait
The old Bambi resort on Lake Hubert is now called Alluring Pines. It is just a mile down the road from our store. Shane is still running the resort but the cabins are now only rented out seasonally, with pretty high demand. It is one of the nicest properties I've ever seen in the area. Good luck out on the river.Jason Erlandson
Liar
Thanks Jason, I have lots of good memories from that area. Can anyone tell me how this rain will affect the river? I noticed the rainfall has been below avg. for a few years now. Will this rain and runofff, just bring the river up closer to normal? Or will the current be harder and the water dirtier. We wont be out there til thursday, but they got a lot of rain in chamberlain and north quite a ways. I'm wondering if this will draw the fish to the shallower areas like the creeks. From what I have read most of the action will be in the upper 1/3 of the lake. I havent been able to find a good map around here, but it looks like there is some good creeks that flow in.
