How many Rods and Reels

Last year I fished a number of tournaments and found my self with maybe one or two spinning outfits and two or three baitcaster outfits. There are so many fishing techniques, that require different actions and lenghts for the rods. Then there is the line, mono for topwater, flouro for cranks ect. I guess what I'm getting at is do you have a seperate rod for different fishing techniques. For example one for crankbaits, one for open water top water, one for slop, one for spinnerbaits, one for skipping docks. I have fished every technique for bass, but some of them I more than likely wasn't using the right type of line. I don't know, hopefully you know what I'm getting at.

So many choices, not enough money.

Thanks,

Craig

Yes and no.... many techniques you can do some double up... But to answer your question.. Yes, I have at least a rod for most applications, and sometimes more than one. But as I said, some can double up.. A lot of my carolina/stupid rig rods also double as texas rig rods and soft plastic jerkbait rods. Some crankbait rods double as topwater rods at different times of the year...

Rods that I have that are TOTALLY SPACIFIC.

Dropshot rod.

Flipping Rod

Slop Rod

Spinnerbait rod

Dock Rods.

I build my own rods now and I'm up to 52. frown.gif Yeah, sad ain't it!!! I had rods/reels for specific techniques. In all honestly, I have about 14 or 15 specifics comboes set up, and I usually take 11 or so on a trip with me. Like Dietz said, many double up.

I make very specific rods to fit my strength baits. Tubes, Crankbaits, jig worms.

I'm not in the class of the guys who have already responded but I do have a number of rods (17 at last count) which each correspond to a different technique or a couple of techniques. I usually carry 8 with me when I am fishing out of someone elses boat which is a good indicator of what I need rather than want grin.gif. I typically split almost evenly between spinning and baitcasting. On the spinning outfits I have identical reels on three sticks with extra spools so that gives me more versatility too.

The four sticks I always have rigged are the jig rod for pitchin', the drop shot, a cranking rod, and the c-rig.

I keep 14 in the boat. Most are for techniques that I like to fish. Could I get rid of some, possibly. Will I? No. It's nice to just pick up a rod and not have to reitie all the time. I keep 2 spinning rods, the rest are all baitcasters.

Currently I have 14 different set ups. Trying to upgrade slowly so I don't get in too much trouble. I now have 3 loomis rods (all spinning). I have two decent baitcasters but not proficient enough or confident enough in my casting ability. Gotta get out in the yard and work on that spose. Anyway for league or tournaments I bring out usually 7 pre set up rigs to eliminate down time. When I'm out by myself I'll have a few extra... Never enough seems like. grin.gif

I have been fishing as a non boater in the Wal Mart BFL for I think 4 years now and I have 5-6 rods that are my mainstays. Sometimes too many rods just become more of a problem than an asset. I am only speaking from experiance.

Here is a break down of my set ups and what I use them for.

All rods but one are Kistlers.

6'9MH Casting, Daiwa Fuego, 12# Sufix Elite.

This is a versitile rod. But I use it almost exclusivly for small plastics and stickbaits.

7' Composite Crankbait, Abu Garcia Torno, 12# Sufix Elite.

I use this rod for crank baits, lipless crank baits, and topwaters. Also ocasionally for buzz baits.

7' Heavy Casting, Abu Garcia Torno, 17# Sufix Elite.

This is my swim jig, chatter bait and sometimes if I need an extra spinner bait rod.

7'MH Casting, Daiwa Fuego, 12# Sufix Elite.

This is more or less my go to rod, texas rigs, jigs, and spinnerbaits when I need them.

7'6" Heavy casting (flippin' stick),Daiwa Viento,50# suffix braid with 20# flouro carbon leader.

This is my flippin stick, but when not flippin it usualy gets used for throwing frogs and toads in the slop.

7'M Spinning, Daiwa Sol, 4-8# Sufix Elite.

This is my finesse rod. Shakey heads, drop shotting, and dock skipping is usually the order of the day.

I do have other rods that get swapped in and out depending on what we're fishing, but these are the 6 that I use 95% of the time.
