Trolling Motor Problem

Hey I was wondering if anyone could give me an idea of why my trolling motor cuts out on the top speed setting after awhile ...All is good on the other settings no matter how long I run it? Any help is good help...ty!

If you have inline circuit breakers they may be tripping!

How long do you have to wait before it will go again?

It only takes a couple seconds to come back on sometimes...but then it runs for even shorter duration.

I would guess the motor is overheating and the thermal protection is tripping. I'm not sure they have thermal protection, but many electric motors do.

That is so the windings in the motor dont melt away the insulation and short circiut!ooooohhh burning ,stink, bad,fire,..........c63

I am having the same exact problem with my MinKota AT. Have you figured out the cause yet? I feel it may be my boats wiring shorting out somewhere, so Im going to wire it straight to the battery tonight and see if that fixes it. If so I'll have to run new wire in the boat. Hopefully its not the trolling motor itsself that is broken.

Well I figured it out. There was a 40 amp circuit breaker in the line that I didn't see. I took it out and installed a 50 amp as Minnkota suggested. Works great now:-) Look out wind and waves. Here I come:-)
