CorynTracySellHomes
Looing for suggestions for a heater in a permanent ice shack. The shack is a 8x12 and I would like to find a heater that has a thermostat or some type of control to turn up or down the heat. Currently the heater has one temperature setting hotter than heck!Any help would be greatly appreciated, also if I could get an estimation for dollar amount.Cory FrantzickRE/MAX Associates PlusTimberlane Homes(612)801-08091-800-568-5818 ext 202------------------Visit us on the web at www.Athomeonthelake.com
The Chemist
A friend of mine uses a wall heater. Runs on propane and has a low oxygen safety device I believe he said. I'll find out more for you as to cost and all.
MuleSkinner
We put a Glo-Warm ventless propane 5/10K BTU heater with thermostat in our 8x12. It has a variable setting, pilot light, ignitor and its been working great! We usually have it on the lowest setting, and its on pilot-only alot (still wish it was colder outside). I paid $119 before shipping and tax, over the internet. Sorry, don't think I have the site anymore. Also put in a CO detector. We've had 3 overnites there, and everyone's awakened ok (except for Schnapps hangovers). We also insulated the floor this summer, which helped alot.Mills Fleet sells same brand, same price on sale, but theirs is a garage unit, 10-30K BTU, which is too big. Would overheat on lowest setting.

MuleSkinner
Sorry, I can't find the site. I remember it was in South Carolina and the women had cute accents, and ice fishing on top of the lake blew their minds. Also, it might have been a wholesaler I stumbled onto, as it took several calls to get it shipped, though they were extremely friendly.Anyway, the others are right. Mills Fleet or NorthernTool should have something that will work. But when I looked in the Fall, Mills units were Too Big, or no thermostats. Also, NorthernTools $140 unit said 3 heat settings, which made no sense to me. Should be variable between a low and a high (5/10k btu). The Chemist is right. Heater probably will come without a regulator or hoses. We used one from an old gas grill. So it might help to buy from a knowledgable place that can set you up with everything needed.Good luck and stay warm.
cold one sd
If you go to www.icefishingheaters.com you will find the heater that I use. It has all the features that you want, takes very little room (can be installed in a corner), and will heat a large shanty with no problem. I have looked at the radiant wall heaters and this one may be cheaper and easier to install. My shanty is 7x12 and I can fish in a tshirt. My 2 cents. RipJigger
A wall mount heater is the way to go.I have had both a blue flame and a infra-red type, the latter is better. With a blue flame heater there is usually more temp settings than an infrared but you do not get an even heat. Blue flame heaters just heat the air,so it's 100 degrees at the ceiling but your holes keep freezing up.With an infrared heater it heats the surrounding objects so you get a more even heat. Just a suggestion ------------------RipJigger
