mjhowe
IcehouseBob,What size Mustad triple grips do you use to replace the hook on the Angel Eye? I am thinking about playing with them a little this year, just to have something a little different.Thanks,------------------MikeKalispell, MT<<><<"LOOK ALIVE, MAGGOT!"(Not you Pal, I was talking to my bait)
icehousebob
MJHOWE,I put on the smallest size Triplegrip they make. I think its a size 8, which seems to be larger than a normal size 8 treble. I also used one size smaller split ring, but have lots of extras, because about half get sprung in the process of putting them on. The smaller split ring keeps the hook and ring from getting caught up on the side of the lure's tail. The heavier hook does slow the action of the lure slightly, but the perch I was catching didn't seem to know the difference.

icehousebob
Rick, I'd like to order some Glow Devils, but my tackle box is getting a mite full so I'd only be ordering one dozen. In a perfect world, the cards would be six of each size on the card. My main targets are perch and crappies, but occasionally I'm talked into fishing Walleyes. I do like the feel of a heavy lure when I'm jigging, so which size would you use if you had to pick between the 1/8th and 1/4th oz.?
we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Rick Posted November 3, 2003 we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Share Posted November 3, 2003 That's a very tough dilemma. If I had to pick one, I'd go with the 1/4 oz to start. Especially if you use it as a search lure in deep water after bigger fish. The 1/8 oz definitely should be considered as soon as you can get yourself a dozen. The 1/16 oz will have it's place. That's why it's being made available here soon.[This message has been edited by Rick (edited 11-10-2003).]
Guest
Can't wait for the 1/16oz! They are going to be a hot lure for a lot of species!Good Fishin,Matt [email protected]Catch-N TackleMarCum
Scenic
Icehousebob,Good question there but a real dilemma. For most of my Perch and Walleye fishing I like to use the 1/4th oz but they are a bit large for most Crappie fishing. For them I like to use the 1/8th. Just a suggestion for you. Maybe try to find a buddy that will split a card of each with you. Each card comes with 2 of each color. Just an idea and a way to give you both sizes.Jeff Scenic Tackle[email protected]
icehousebob
I just came up with another solution to my problem. I could buy a card of each size and leave them on the table when my sons visit. The number of lures would quickly reach managable proportions. My youngest son is 21, but they all still play this game of LETS RAID DAD'S TACKLE BOX. There have been times that before fishing, I have to call around to find whose car has my Vex and auger. Or I could use half of the lures for stocking stuffers. Scenic
LOL Sounds like you have it all worked out. I also have a son but he plays lets raid dad's shop. Every once in a while I find samples in his tackle box.Jeff

Yellow Dog
I will buy Angel Eyes, jr.s, and glow devils for perchin', crappies, and 'eyes.BUT what weight rod should I have? Currently have ULFireline or micro ice?
Guest
Depending on the species of fish you are fishing for or the size of the lure.A medium/light or medium action rod would probably be best for the glow devils and angel eye jrs. A medium action rod for angel eyes when in search of walleye. You want to have a rod that won't bend too much while jigging. That way you have total control of the lure and you can fish properly. I would equip the medium/light rod with 4 or 6 pound test. The medium rod with 6 or 8 pound test. Flourocarbon is another possibility for line other then fireline and Micro Ice. P-line has a nice product as well. There are a lot of rods out there to choose from. Check out this link for rod choices and answers:http://fishingminnesota.com/ubb/Forum30/HTML/003034.htmlI like glow devils for perch and crappie, but you will catch walleye as well. Angel eyes and Angel eye jrs are dynamite for all species of fish! Tip them with either a minnow head, whole minnow, or maggots and enjoy the action!Good Fishin,Matt [email protected]Catch-N TackleMarCum

WallEYES
JEFF and RICK can attest last year on LOW on the Canadian side that the last day of fishing on that walleye spot I was catching eyes, slab crappies and up to 11-12 inch perch and one tullibee in the same holes on angle eye jr's...using stictly the hammered gold colors. I have also done very well on URL using both the glow devils and the a.e. jr's...great spoons added to my ice fishing arsenal...Kind of like the american express card....Never leave home without them. we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Rick Posted November 13, 2003 we are 'the leading edge' HSO Creators Share Posted November 13, 2003 I was certainly amazed watching 12 year old Kyle just hammer the perch, eyes and crappies with those Angel Eye Jrs. on Lake of the Woods wallEYES. Guest
I'd say the weekend I went up to Winnie and pounded the perch with the firetiger/perch Glow Devil and then came back to the Metro the next day and hammered the crappies with the pink Glow Devil. A great little spoon that can be fished a lot of different ways and for a lot of different fish. The possibilities are endless!Good Fishin,Matt [email protected]Catch-N TackleMarCum[This message has been edited by MJ5 (edited 11-13-2003).]
Guest
WhaTT!,I would bring a few different sizes and colors. Any color could be hot on any given day and the size could make a difference when fish are positive or negative, so sticking to one size would limit you. Different sizes fish differently as well, and if you are looking for a different action and you only have one size, you might be out of luck. Angel Eyes also fish differently then Glow Devils. Angel Eyes fish lighter and flutter on the way down, where Glow Devils are more solid with more precise jigging movements. Both have there place and time, so limiting yourself to one or the other also can leave your options at a loss. I would bring a few different colors of both the 1/8 and 1/4 oz Glow Devils. And I would also bring a few different colors of both the regular and glow Angel Eyes. During dawn and dusk the glow work real well. Gold is a hot color too.If the fish aren't biting I like to try a lot of different colors and sizes. Even though color doesn't usaully make all the difference, there are those times where it does, and when I make the 5 or 6 hour trip up to LOW I don't want to be without several different options. It can get frusterating if there are fish on the flasher and they don't bite, but sometimes just a little minor adjustment like size and color can make all the difference in the world.Good Fishin,Matt [email protected]Catch-N TackleMarCum[This message has been edited by MJ5 (edited 11-13-2003).]
