Guest
I don't think its a secret, but I'll mention it anyways....Obviously it's alot easier to find fish when you dont have to drill a hole in every prospective spot. As long as the ice is clear, all you need to do is pour a little water on the ice(or as I do, spit) and put your transducer to the ice. The locator will read through and tell you everything you need to know without drilling a hole. You can cover alot of ground fast this way. This saves energy, espeacially if you're drilling holes by hand. PCG

Paul Rohweller
I usually do the water on the ice thing, or coffee or pop, whatevers handy. Spitting works too! I can usually find my spot before I get cottonmouth! lolol------------------Paul RohwellerPine to Prairie Guide Service218-962-3387http://fishingminnesota.com/pinetoprairie

Guest
Thats some funny stuff Eddy... :-) Ice was wet today due to the warm weather. Could winter come sometime soon?
Creek Kid
Everyone can have a chuckle at my expense since I was not away of this. I thought that was the big selling point of those blue hand-held models!?! I have a small Humminbird portable. I realize you guys with Vex's have no time for such silliness but, would this trick work with my transducer as well? If so I'm gonna have to chuckle at myself and the time I'VE wasted drilling holes only to run into weeds 2 ft deep!
Guest
Creek Kid/ yes your hummingbird should work. You may have to play with the gain to get a reading. You may also want to consider if you havnet already, getting maps of the lakes you fish. This will save time and avoid obvious "dead" water.------------------MILLE LACS AREA GUIDE SERVICE 651-271-5459 http://fishingminnesota.com/millelacsguide/
Guest
Yes....Some things are so simple and so easy that we often forget about them.... Happy Drilling PCG
Havin' Fun
Thought it was interesting that you mentioned this.Tried sliding the transducer across the ice, and it was like running your boat til you find fish or if your looking for some particular part of the break. Dave
Just a thought about sliding the ducer across the ice. Could the ducer get cut up on any sharp slivers and damage it?I hear using a squirt soap bottle works pretty good also.
Guest
A little attention to the surface of the ice will prevent scratching or any damage that may occur to your transducer.. I usually pick it up and set it down gently everytime I move though to prevent any "accidents" PCG
Dave
I agree, the transducers need some TLC. I believe that's why Vexilar has foam holders in its Pro Packs.
BLACKJACK
Thought I better check out this 'As Long as its WET' thread to see if it was really about fishing or if its about something else thats fishy smelling and we like it when its wet!! Bring on the ice!
