Yep, check both posts that RW gave you.. there has been quite a bit of discussion on the VPG..

1) I am pleased so far with the unit. I have used it about a dozen times now.

2)I really like the Dig readout. And is simple to read. My wife loves it!

3)For $229 I think its well worth it. Moveable zoom is a nice feature.

4)I own a Marcum LX-5 a Marcum LX-3 a Vexilar FL-18 and the VPG. By far my fave is still the LX-5. That in my opinion is still the best unit on the market. My wife really likes the readout on the VPG, and I must admit it is pretty nice, and as I said, I really like the dig read out. I also like the fact that it makes no noise at all...My Fl-18 doesnt see the ice much any more.. just when I am taking friends and they dont have a unit. I do too much fishing for Crappies and gills, and like the movable zoom in the other 3 units.

Boy, thats a tough question TD... I would say that if you are comparing dollar for dollar, that yes I would. It has the movable zoom which is important to me with as much crappie fishing as I do. And there arent many units out there in that $230 price range that do that. With that said.. it will be a long time before you pry the LX-5 from my hands.

LOL Dietz . You poor lad just like Matt Johnson I try and box in but you two sure bounce . LOL. I'll get you two tied up yet in a definative answer . LOL. Ok ..btw . The VPG has moveable zoom but the VX-1 by Marcum has expandable zoom and in same price range . Which is your choice if you stack them side by side and why . I would like to hear about interference and such too because who knows I may just have to test one but with all the things I'm already testing this year I'm not sure whether they warrant the extra bucks till the glitches if any are figured out till next year .

I'm getting some pretty high reviews from friends who

bought VX-1's this year and even though I have yet to try a VX-1 myself I am on it as I am on the newest vexilar one the FL-20 .

Come on Dietz stop bouncing as I'm just not that mean . LOL grin.gif

And yes I too have an LX-3 and LX-5 plus tested the LX-2 and will not at this time part with the LX-3 or The LX-5 . LOL grin.gif I'm trying to set the hook HOTSPOT OUTDOORS and grinning . LOL No harm intended .

you dont scare me TD... I cant answer your question this time.. I have never used a VX-1, so I cant compare them. And I would rather say I dont know, than lie. I will say this.. I used my VPG right next to my wife who was using my LX-5 with little to no interfierence problems.. I will say this.. I was only in 12 feet of water and the bottom was soft.. I have not played with the 2 together in deeper water(where interfierence problems usually happen) and on hard bottom..

and dude.. I am nothing like Matt.. he is way younger and better looking than I am. wink.gif

LOL Dietz . Well thankyou for the honest answer and if no issues regarding interference or minor occurred with the LX-5 that's actually a good thing I believe .

The whole thing with sonar is not to beat up on the other guy nor be beaten up when it comes to interference because its supposed to be a fun experience no matter what unit anybody uses and I think we all as a whole agree with that but I do like to be in the drivers seat even though it is so VERY RARE for me to fish with others where it can or will become an issue . I fish alot of species in relatively uncrowded waters that I hear many of you do in comparison but I have friends in southern Ontario though that do and it's likely the biggest reason I ask about interference issues and test them myself so that I can give an honest answer .

As far as Matt being better looking who am I to say as I am better looking than you both and older too . LOL grin.gif 47 in a few short weeks they tell me and good ol age, experience and treachery will beat youth and luck everytime . LOL grin.gif

I was at the Burntside bash this past weekend and fishing in 90' of water with my VX-1. I was a bit worried when I had to set the dial to 160ft shocked.gif

However I was still able to pick up my med jigging spoon and could even see my bait fall of my hook to the bottom.

Matter of fact I think I was even seeing some smelt near the bottom.

I tell ya what....for $169 I'm pretty darn happy with it.
