Scentlok vs Military Carbon Suits

another question from the beginner. Plan on first season of bowhunting next year and trying to gear up as I can. Im on an extremely tight budget and as everyone knows scentlok gear is pretty spendy. I was wondering if anyone uses the carbon military suits or how well the block your scent. Most I have seen are plain green or the old standard camo. I did find a place to purchase british pant/jacket sets that have what I think looks like a much better camo pattern than the US or solid green. In the size I need, the guy sells them for $25.00. Its prety hard to find a regular pair of camo pants alone for this price so seems like a win win situation. I was just wondering if anyone has any opinions or experience with this type of hunting clothing.

Thanks

Brent

Here a little bit to think about. All the camo gear and in scent lock is just fine and I do own it all and use it. But, dont get caught up thinking you have to have the scent lock or you wont get a deer. Always play the wind in your favor and if you are hunting in a tree stand, if you get up high enough then it doesnt matter near as much.

I use to hunt with a guy that just wore green and brown clothes and he never had any problems and always shot a deer.

Brent, Harvey nailed it. I use some plain camo military. Put my extra money into more deer stands. Play the wind like harvey said, take a shower with unscented soap and keep your gear in something scentproof, spray with home made scent killer ( another money saver ) and your good to gooooo. Good luck on your first year.

I hunt with a Kentucky longrifle using patched round balls. It requires me to get close to whitetailed deer. I have shot about a half a dozen deer. No deer was shot further than 20 yards. I have to, by law, wear blaze orange. None of the deer knew I was there till I shot. I shot all on the ground as I am afraid of heights. The point is, the other posters are right. Don't waste your money on scentlock clothes. Instead, get a goose or turkey feather and watch the wind. Neither settlers or Indians had scentlock clothes grin.gif.

I do believe that scent lock clothes are good to wear. If one doesnt want to spend the money you can still hunt.

If I am chasing a trophy buck and think I have him patterned, then before I go after him I will have all my ducks in a row including the scent lock clothes.

They are not a must as some say, but they sure dont hurt.

Thanks fellas. Hopefully with bowhunting, I will have more opportunities of places to hunt than I do for rifle season, including public land that doesnt get touched until gun season. For rifle season I have one spot of private land to hunt with friends. Due to the terrain, access, number of guys and number of stands (4 guys on 70 acres all surrounded by private land that gets pounded for gun season) and land boundaries, it is next to impossible to play the wind.

Thanks again. Time to watch some hunting videos. I cant wait!

put in my order yesterday for the military suit. Buy now price of 19.99 + 10 shipping and handling. I figure I cant even by a pair of camo pants let alone pants and coat for that price.
