Nature Vision One-Man Pak Shack Shelter

TMT

Question

Does anybody have one of these or used one?

Are they durable, easy to set up?

They seem very inexpensive, which is appealing.

Any feedback is appreciated!

Thanks,

TMT

I have only used mine 2 times so far, its held up so far, but that is not enough to say that they are durable. as for set up.. it doesn't get any easier.. unfold chair, sit down, pull over... and that is right out of the box..

I like it.. works for how I fish.. .which is move a lot! I usually only use it on days its a tad chilly to keep the main chill of me.

I have used mine alot. And for being durable well you get what you pay for there not made for those windy days. They do make a fold up sled for them so it makes it alot easier to bring your auger with. But for the price and the comfort and how easy they are to use you can't beat it

We set one up in the store and I thought it was great. It has it's limitations, but when you consider it's portability and price, it's hard to beat. I found it a little tough to get back in the bag, but I'm sure it gets easier with use. I'm still considering one.

I picked one up last night, it sets up very quickly, getting it back in the bag wasn't to difficult. If you are into sight fishing, this shack will work great, about as dark as it gets in there. Although I would have liked to see a vent of some sort on it.

I bought it for one purpose, backcountry fishing in places where motor travel is prohibited, or places where it is just to difficult to drag my other one-man flipable shack into. I am going to attach it to a backpack frame for easier transport, along with a Sportcat heater, couple rods and some tackle. I take care of my gear, so even though it isn't made with the best materials, it should last me for many years to come. I can't wait to break her in this weekend. I'll post some on ice experience with it next week.

I have used mine a few times now and love it. Here are a couple tricks: When it is windy, (I've been out a couple times with wind between 15-20mph) Put an ice screw anchor down and attach back of shelter to it before opening up chair, then open chair and pull canopy up so the wind blows the shelter directly downn wind and then drill your hole. That way you won't have any side wind to deal with. Either replace the cap nuts on each of the 2 round swivel mounts of the canopy to the chair with nylon lock nuts, or Loctite the cap nuts, they are prone to become loose and fall off. Durability wise, I don't think there is any problem, the shelter material looks to be rip stop nylon which is plenty tough as long as you don't burn it and use the sturdy storage bag. Mountaineering tents and parachutes are made from the same stuff. The chair is plenty sturdy and large and comfortable. I have had the riveted pivot points on other folding canvass chairs break, but they are easily fixed with small stainless bolts and locknuts. Will be giving mine a real test this weekend lake trout fishing near Ely with sub-zero conditions predicted and let you know.

Was real pleased with how the Pak Shack performed last weekend on Burntside lake. The temp was -24 when I hit the lake on Sat. morning, but with the sport cat heater I stayed warm all day. My plan if I hooked a trout, was to quickly jam the rod butt under me between my legs and quickly flip open the canopy so I could pull the vex and fight the fish, but sadly that never came about. The shelter however made what would have been a brutal day, an entirely comfortable one.
