Electric vs manual knife, and which type of each.

Electric for me and power is available. American Angler is what I have and it works great.

Manual I prefer the Rapala fellet knife.

I only use a Cutco fisherman solution. I have been so happy with this knife that I have never tried a electric.

Manual for me. I have never tried electric but as sharp as I keep my knives I've never had a problem using them manually.

Rapala cordless is the best way I've found. I keep a couple of regular Rapala fillet knifes around for the skinners if there is a group of us! Once you go electric, you'll never go back!

as much as I like the tried and true filet knife, I have to go with the electric on this one. The rapala electric knife I have makes cleaning panfish a quick little chore. I was concerned that the double blade on the knife would "waste" meat on the filets. It actually turned out to be quite the opposite. I waste less meat with the electric knife. BTW, the knife also works really well for carving turkeys, etc.

I totally agree. I was a stubborn diehard "old school" fileter for years and would spend two hours cleaning 50 panfish by hand after fishing all day and got tired of that. Tried the Rapala electric for panfish and never looked back I still always use my regular knife for walleyes because at most I might be doing 5 a night but when you're looking at a big bucket of panfish you gotta go electric It saves SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much time and really doesn't waste meat if you get good at it.

Manual. Never tried electric. Have seen people use it and they appear to waste a lot of meat in order to "get the job done". I can do it just as fast or faster with a manual knife.

Especially when it comes to taking the "Y" bones out of northerns. An electric knife is worthless.
