Muskie Lures/Gear?

Recommended Posts

Just started Muskie fishing this past summer and really enjoy it. I'm going to do a lot of it this coming year. I have a little bit of tackle and gear, but with christmas here what are some must haves or some of the most "effective" lures out there?? Any feedback would be helpful!

Thanks

There are virtually 1000's of good lures with more being produced daily.

Bucktails catch fish and are easy to work. There are only 4.2 million variations of bucktails, so good luck laugh.gif

Suicks, bobbies, topraiders, jackpots, weagles, DDD's and hellhound's get thrown in my boat.

Good luck, if you are like most of us, you will need it more than just for the fishing, you will need it for the addictions-lures,trips,internet research and more!!!

1) Giant jackpot

2) Slopmaster (single colorado blade)

3) manta

4) depthraider

5) triple D

I think for people just starting the jackpots the most important cause it'll show you (or at least it shows me) the most fish.

1. Showgirl (got my first two 'skies on this bucktail)

2. Hellhound (Most people say the manta is the easiest glider to work, but I think the hellhound is much easier)

3. Topraider

4. Bulldawg

5. Manta

6. Weagle (kinda hard to get it to work right at first, but lots of fun)

7. Shallow Invader

So far I only have 45 lures, and trust me, you'll only end up using about 5.

Bucktails - Gotta have em ' . Depth Raiders , I like jointed ones . I have had luck with Grandmas and Jakes . Of course you have to have a Suick , seems every Muskie Fisherman has a few or at the very least there is one in the tackle box . Quick Strike Rigs for fall and a decent Jig or two .

Silly girl, bulldawgs, mag. hogwoobler, legend perch and a pacemaker.. If your new, don't spend lots of wasted time and money searching for that new secret lure.. Concentrate on the basics of musky fishing... I.E.. Sharp hooks, blades spinning when the bucktail hits the water, good boatside figure 8's , circles, L's... Just speaking from experience and alot of wasted money when I first started.. The 5 lures stated above all catch fish, and is what I use about 95% of the time..

I think that it is more important to have lures that you enjoy using, therefore, you will use them.

I think bucktails are hellishly boring to fish. While I am sure they have their place for me, it is a waste of money to buy them, because I know I won't use them.

Figure out what you enjoy, learn how to work those lures in a variety of ways and you will catch fish.
