It's a neat concept, but I think for the money.. The Frabil recon might be a better buy? If you consider the price of the sled.. I think the recon goes for about $139? While the Pack Shack with fold sled is $129?

I dont have any actual experience with them, besides seeing them at the ice fishign show.

I think I got one for Christmas......I'll let you know how it works. wink.gif

It's a good concept for me. I have a sled I made for all my gear, and a shanty with a sled is not something I would use. In theory, I can just toss this into my sled and have it to get me out of the wind.

I used one quite a bit last winter and they are a great unit for the guy who doesn't have a lot of room for a trap or the like. ( I have a small Honda) It is an amazing Sight Fishing House FYI.

I sat in one the other day - pretty cool actually. It's better than the Recon in that it is VERY portable - it's a backpack, basically. If you are looking for an entry level flipover, don't buy a Frabill - buy the Clam Scout... I thought the fabric on the Pak Shack was pretty decent quality, and the chair is very comfy. The hoops that hold the shape of the tent are steel - I was worried they would be cheap plastic. All in all, I think it's a cool deal for the right conditions, first ice, walk in lakes, anglers on a budget, etc. I wouldn't trade my Otter Den for one, but it's definitely worth a look - I may pick one up at the end of the season.

If you're on a budget, and you want to stay sheltered, the pak shak may be the ticket.

I looked at and sat in one at the ice-show. A couple observations:

You will probably still need a sled if you have any measurable amount of gear.

The attached folding chair is of a type that isn't my favorite for fishing. I feel to "sunk in" and far back for what I prefer for ice fishing.

I have used these fold up type chairs in the winter before, and under quite cold conditions, the chair couplers cracked. Again, this was on a cold day. I'm not positive if the coupler joints on the pak shak are plastic, but be careful if it's really cold out

It's no fun when the wind is whipping on the lake and you're standing out in the cold. For the money, the pak shak may be the ticket, just remember: for the money.

The one I looked at gave me the feeling that it wouldn't hold up very well in a decent wind. The sides seemed to buckel in pretty easy.

Like someone else mentioned, if you have any amount of gear, you might want to consider a small flip over shanty. By the time you add in the cost of a sled for transporting gear to the cost of the pak shack, you be in the same price range as the flip over.
