My husband and I are building a house on a drop trailer. We'd like a 24" door but we'er having a hard time finding one. We've found 1 HSOforum where (after shipping) a 24" door would cost about $200.00. Does anyone have any good itdeas to find a nice door that can still handle the weather?

Because of the smaller size of the house (8' x 6') we don't want the door to be any larger.

Thanks for you're help!

I bought 2 doors from Menards at Inl. Falls last month. They are insulated exterior metal doors with no hardware or frame, the guy behind the desk called them "slabs". He said they are on the top and bottom of the stacks when they get doors frieghted in , or they may have been damaged. $ 4.00 each ( yes four dollars ) on was perfect condition, reg way over 100 bucks the other one had a few marks and the bottom trim was missing. Both worked well!

Menards, Lowes, or Home Depot would be a cheap place to get a door. I have bought several damaged doors for as little as $2. I used them for various projects where a full size door & appearance are not important. If you're gonna cut it off anyways, wood or steel - go shopping for something damaged & cheap.

The alternative for expensive doors, is build your own. Esspecially if you want it smaller than a normal, or odd size.

I just made a frame of 2x2's about 1/2" smaller than the opening of the door. Then fit a piece of foam inside the frame, covered it with the siding material I used, on the outside, and panaling on the inside. After I hung it in the opening, I put some 1x2's in for stops, weather stiping, and it was done. Not sure what it cost, because I had all the material already, but it couldn't have been more than $20.

I don't know much about door's but I own two fishhouses both have metal framed door's and I have had nothing but problem's they freeze up.The metal conducts the cold and makes condensation on the inside of the door and get's in to the lock and door handle and freezes so either you can't close the door or you can't open it anyone know how it fix this!

I went to my local hardware store and they had about 30 doors in their warehouse that had been abandoned throughout the years. I picked out a 24" interior door for $20. It's not insulated but I put 2 good coats of paint on it and it looks sweet and should do the job. Nice and light.

I think just about all doors are metal framed. I have a fiberglass shinned door and have had no problems.

Every year I lube up the door lock with a door lock anti-freeze that comes in a spray and I use a direct vent furnace.

I know if you use sunflower heaters or ventless heaters just about everything frosts up inside.
