Buddy Heater

CrappieAttitude

Question

I was out last Saturday and my Buddy's "Little Buddy" (confused yet?) heater just shut off. It seemed to be working fine, all of a sudden poof...it went out. He had it hooked to a 20lb tank that was just filled and after it shut off, the only thing he could light was his pilot. Even that would only stay lit for a few moments. Any suggestions I could make to him about it. confused.gif

I ran into this problem this year. I run off of a 20 lb and have for many years. My pilot lights, but the burner is hard to light, is weak, and goes out after 5 minutes. Looking at the web site I have oil contamination in my regulator. Evidently there is a filter you're supposed to use when running off a bulk tank. I ordered a new regulator ($6) and a filter ($9) from Mr. Heater (Contact Us Please). I had no idea there was supposed to be a filter, or that propane had oil in it. I'm not very happy, I'm sure there was nothing that told me about a filter when I bought the heater. Oh well, live and learn.

The oil leeches out of the rubber gas hose and gums up the works. Anyone using a hose attachment and bulk tank for either the Buddy or Big Buddy should be using a filter. I had a heck of a time finding a filter by mid-ice season last year, ended up using the 1 lbers till the stores restocked the filters in the spring.

Thanks guys i'll relay this info to my buddy.

Big Laker... We were inside. I have heard that they are pretty touchy with the breeze.

Does a MFF carry filters for these, or do you need to go somewhere else? Anyone in the Brainerd lakes area find them lately?

Duffman is correct!! I talked with Mr. Heater customer service a while back to clear up the hose option questions for the big buddy. they said the same thing

The other hose option is the one with the one pound thread fitting. This hose threads to the same fitting as the one pound cylinder would. The propane is regulated by the internal regulator of the heater. Because this hose is run directly from the tank to the heater it is considered a high pressure hose. Because of the high pressure oil/contaminates can be squeezed out of the hose. This is why it is strongly recommended to use the filter.
