jiffy stealth question

jtk15

Question

Not exactly what forum this goes under, so I apologize in advance if this is not the best option.

One very basic question-I have a 3hp Jiffy Stealth- (it is not even a season old), and it appears to be a bit of a pain to get started on occassion. In addition, the drill tends to bog down when cutting ice due to the increased workload on the engine....I am wondering if I have a rich blend and that could be the problem. The only issue is, this is not the first blend to go into the machine.

Any ideas would be helpful. I had the same problem last winter, and I did drain it over the summer months bone dry.

Suggestions, ideas, or anything would help prior to having to bring it in....It really seems like a simple issue, but engines are not my forte'

Thanks in advance,

jk

I also have the auger you are talking about. It use to do that to me when I first got it. After drilling a bunch of holes I realized that if I let it warm up for a minute or so that wouldnt happen. It starts great now and if I let it run for just a little bit it wont give me any problems at all.

If warming it up does not work, Bring it by Reel Fishing and Tackle in Madison Lake and I will take a look at it. It may just need a slight adjustment. They are not always tuned quite right from the factory. They are tuned more for emissions than performance. I can change that for you in about 5 minutes. grin.gif

Thanks for the replys Harvey and Big!

I am wondering if it would have anything to do with the fuel as indicated in this other thread. I will also try changing the actual gas I am using. I was unaware of the oxygenated issue with small engines. Be a good habit to just start using non on all my small engine stuff.

Thanks for the offer, and I certainly will drop by if I continue to have probelms. Thanks for the offer!

The Shell station on 3rd ave just North of the hwy 14 bridge is the only station in town that I know of with Non-Ox at the pumps. However, I have only ever used 87 in my small 2 cycles. The mix oils have a fuel stabilizer in them for the most part. If you mix up a gallon at a time, you should never run into an issue with "old" gas. Come see me at Reel Fishing and Tackle this weekend and I can help you out and maybe tweek the carb (no charge).

While on this topic I wa wondering about the mix ratio. My Jiffy manual states 24:1 mix. Little extreme isn't it? I have been mixing 50:1 with no problems and it runs much smoother. I have been doing this for a couple of years but was wondering what the thoughts are of a guy that works on em. Am I going to cook it? Or have I already cooked it? crazy.gif
