livewire generators

Ryan_V

Question

anyone heard of these, are they any good, looking at one online that seems nice, and only 63db. it's a chinese engine manufacturer, I've heard good things about that, but can't find any info out about livewire generators online, if anyone has any information to share, good, bad or otherwise would be greatly appreciated. not that we'll have enough ice for the big house anytime soon anyway!!

In the ice fishing forum there was a thread on these called cheap generators a couple weeks ago. I have one of those and the brand name is Launtop. They have many brand names. Mine is a 950 watt 2 cycle generator and it does what it is supposed to do. Nothing fancy, but not expensive either.

the one I was looking at was a 4 stroke, 4000 watt unit. it is rated at only 63 decibels, not the 59 from the honda, but quiet none the less compared to others. plus it has a 4 gallon gas tank that goes 11 hrs on a tank.

Ryan,

How much is one of these going for? I am intrigued. I would like to run a pizzaz pizza oven, but, my generator only does 950 watts and I need 1700. and the generator I have has a decible level of 69...coincidence???Maybe. grin.gif

Thanks

it's around $300 with shipping, I thought it was a pretty good deal, but bigger than really needed for a fish house. I might end up getting one and checking it out, then selling it if I didn't like it.

The Decibel scale is a logarithmic scale. Each 10 dB is twice as loud. 60 dB is about normal office or resturant noise level. 70 is normal home music or TV. 80 is a garbage disposal. 90+ lawn mower.

st michael... I have a great idea, how about you buy one and let me know how it goes?!?!?!?!? let me know what you think

Ryan,

HA HA HA If I had the extra cash I would...I no longer have control of the funds, the Warden of Ice Fishing funds, has taken over 'til the end of the year. It may take me a while to get back on my feet after Christmas, no big purchases in my near future. crazy.gifcrazy.giffrown.gifgrin.gifgrin.gif

DBs are tricky...

Every 3dB increase is twice as much acoustical energy (for lack of better terms), but the ear does not perceive it this way. The ear perceives a 3dB change (2x power) as only a little louder or softer while a change of 10dB (10x power) is perceived to be twice as loud or half as loud.

So, in something we can probably all relate to, if one has a stereo with 100 watts per channel and doubled (2x or +3dB) the power to 200 watts per channel, the system would be perceived as only slightly louder. On the other hand, if one were to want that same system to sound twice as loud (all other things equal)it would require a 10x or +10dB increase in power, or 1000 watts per channel to do it.

I have a question for someone regarding generators??.. My brother and I are building a wheel house and want to wire the house to run our appliances, lights, etc. off a generator. We want to be able to plug the generator into the outside of the house and I'm not quite sure how this works. We went to Menards to ask the question, but nobody seemed to know what we need to do. I think what we need to do is run a wire from the plug in on the outside of the house to a circuit box and from there to the different switches and electrical plug in boxes. We weren't planning on using any batteries. Is this correct? Is there any other way to do it? Thanks in advance for any help.
