Power Hour

I have heard of the "Power Hour" and wonder exactly when it is? I am assuming it is around sundown. How is this "power hour" affected by early ice vs. mid to late season? For example we have had clear ice and bright moon recently.

"The Power Hour" includes the time 30 minutes on either side of sunrise or sunset. Bare none, the best time to have your line in the water throughout the hard water season for 'eyes.

The worst time to have someone come out right next to you and drill 10 holes and then clank their shelter poles on the ice. Or have them come to your house and ask if they're biting as you work one on the flasher.

Ya like that would ever happen. Or the guy who walks out to your house with his kid at 1st ice and says " How much Ice Ya got, how deep is it here?" Buddy told him he dropped his sign!

How about when that guy says to his kid "I am going to check out this other guy fishing, are you coming with me or staying here" WHAT!? staying here, like I am going to watch this kid. Yes that actually happened to me and my freind a few years ago.

That's when you say well looks like you have an auger and gear so how about you drill a hole about 200 yards from me, start fishing and we'll talk about whats biting at the landing when we leave!

I now know what you mean. After 2 dry runs, I was out Saturday afternoon, with a lot of small perch biting. Sun is setting... 4 walleyes in a short period of time. Now I suppose location made the difference. Thanks for the info. First time I ice fished for walleyes and was somewhat successful, fun.

"Power hour".....starts about 30 seconds after a eel pout makes an impossible tangle out of both of my lines..
