Bobberboy
I just was given a very nice Shakespear spinning rod for my birthday. It has no reel mounting system on it. I'm sure I can tape it on but is there any other options that may work better? "Your bobbers down!"
DEADhead
electrical tape is preferred by many to mount reels on handles with no reel seats. I actually prefer to mount reels with tape, as do many others, due to the fact that you can get a lot better fit on the handle by taping, and also you are able to mount the reel further up or down the handle for better rod balance. Also, I usually like to set my reel offset to the guides so that the line coming off of the roller is in line with the guides. Sometimes the reel seat installed by the factory isn't always in the spot I would like it to be; different reels have different weights and balance differently. The one size fits all reel seat, may not be the best fit for a particular reel. Down the road you may find that you prefer the feel of a taped on reel over a reel seat. here's an example
harvey lee
I also use the tape method.Seems to work very well.
PEATMOSS
The cloth tape that hockey players use on their sticks works great.
IFallsRon
Those rods usually come with collett-like rings that run up on either side of the reel foot. It was a poor design that generally required tape or some other additional method to hold it all together. Most all of the out-of-service rods that I have collected over the years still have the rings. I'd say it's untypical to buy a new rod without that feature. DinkADunk
Fuji makes a plate reelseat that would also work. You tape (or use rod wrapping thread and then epoxy) the reelseat on your cork handle and then mount your spinning real to the seat. It's used on surf rods and use them on ice fishing rods I build. Whoaru99
I use the tape method too, but I've seen some that looked like they used heat-shrink tubing.
