Spearing from a portable

Meadow Creek

Recommended Posts

I speared for years from a portable (the old Mankato Tent and Awning suitcase style). It works great. I just upgraded to the Fishtrap Voyager after spearing from a friend's last year. Portables are just fine, as long as you have one with a dark fabric. The Voyager is plenty dark, but the new Fishtrap X models have a lighter ceiling and don't block enough light.

With the flop-over portables, be careful when exiting your shelter. The ice is slippery and the spear hole is big!

Good luck spearing!

I am really excited to sight fish and perhaps spear out of my new Fishtrap Guide. The Traplink door in the back will make exiting the Fishtrap much safer when I've got a big 3x3 hole cut in front of me.
