Older FL-8?

Reynolds

Question

Towards the end of last year I came across a good deal on an older FL-8, so I picked it so others who go fishing with me could also be checking out holes. I never really did get a chance to use it much. My question is what is the knob that is located between the gain and range used for? It is labeled ALARM, and it also says pull PULL FOR CAL.

That is your bottomm alarm and unless you put it in your boat it will be of no use to you. Something you might want to do is clean that unit up. All you have to do is take a allen wrench and remove the knobs and take the screw out of the back end and the unit will split in two now you can clean the inside of the screen as there will be dust from the brushs. If the unit is a little noisy you might put a little WD40 where the brushs ride. I have a Hundex FL8 that is 20 years old and it sounds better now then ever and is a lot brighter because of the cleaning. Hope this helps.

I have a Hondex FL-8 with that alarm feature. I have used the alarm when ice fishing when fish are scarce, mainly at night, in the house. If a fish moves in, the alarm sounds and I can get off the couch and quick jig the lure. grin.gif

You pull the alarm knob to calibrate the depth you want the alarm (line) function to be set at.
