Open Water 2006 Reports Part II

Recommended Posts

Slim pickins tonight at the bar. Hit the water at 4pm with Hendo. A bit chilly but we fished till 6 and Hendo had one eye and I , well caught one small northern about 20".!5-20 waders between the point and the manor and only saw 6 fish caught. The parking area was jammed packed. One guy arrived with a 20' pace v'nose trailer. He took up a couple spaces and then some. The wind calmed down when we departed but has since picked and swung to the east. Had a chat with CNY Frank and CNY Outdoorsman tonight. Jeff will be hitting the area later for a dbl if they are there. frown.giffrown.gif The Roque Kid may be arriving later too.Timmy; Thanks for posting some great pics of the boys.So much fun with the crew. laugh.gifwink.gifgrin.gif

bar was atleast halfway productive lastnight. made a late trip around midnight after the old man told me not to waste my time. had a nice 10-15 outta the east and it pushed a nice chop in. CNY outdoorsman and his father joined me as they watched me catch fish. picked up 2 in the channel within 5 casts and though hmmm, this could get interesting. managed to loose the rear hook on my challenger so i switched up and hit the preechers box, picked up one more, waited it out for a bout 20 mins and finally said goodbye. so all in all, started out good, ended not so good. finished with 2 19's and a 16

timmy- let me know if u get a call from frank. myself and dad and maybe jeff will be heading down tonight if he gets into them. the wind is supposed to be super strong tonight so i have a feeling it might be slim pickins. i drove around the beach today at about 3pm and she was really rockin and rollin with about 3 fters. if not the early bite then ill see if it calms down and we might hit it late and try a double. either way we will let you know how we make out

Another great night for the eyes, pick 2 in 5 cast and the third came about a dozen cast later. Called my old man and waited for him to show up and he managed to put 2 on shore then the wind switched from the west at about 20mph and pushed all the dead weeds into our area. It felt like old times tonight with the cold wind and snow falling. It was snowing and lighting at the same time and that was cool. I can't believe how high the water is for this time of the year.

well with low expectations, last night turned out good. hit the water at about 1145 and fished til 4 am. we found a few fish and a place with not much wind so we stuck it out. attempted the double but couldnt quite swing it, got out to late. cny outdoorsman and I picked up 7 last night at schiebls. 1 24.5, 1 23, 2 20's 2 18's and 1 16. didnt do too bad. 3 hook perch challenger was the ticket. i ended up catching 6 and jeff caught one. he picked up a new rod the other day and has only caught one fish on it so far. so after a while i decided to lay back and see if he could break the new rod in. but all in all not a bad night.

CNY Tim- next time you come out or get a minute lemme know i want you to teach me how to put pics on here... i got a couple nice ones from last night

That's a sweet bunch of walleyes there boys. Couple of those fish look like they needed to hit the gym and slim it down a bit smirk.gif My boat's at the dealer overnight getting the engine serviced so no fishing for me which is too bad because I can just smell the walleye in the air tonight. Hopefully I'll get her back in time to go tomorrow and work the night bite again for a couple hours. Going to be a little colder out there on the boat now though cool.gif

Holy crappola John you mean thosee stoagies get a rest, OMG wink.gifsmirk.gifgrin.gif There in trouble grin.gif

A little colder is not a bad thing if we can keep it that way. Fired up the snowblower in anticipation of the white stuff heading our way, looked at my fish trap pro sitting idly by in the corner of the garge begging me to take her out for a spin, hey one can dream right confused.gif

Yeah Tim, those Stoagies don't have to worry about running into me tonight! I need to make sure that I get that Mercury serviced. She really is due for an oil change and some new grease in the lower unit plus that Minn Kota bowmount failed me and luckily is still under warranty so I need to get that taken care of too. I've got a backup transom electric I can run til we get a new one in. I'm hoping we get some ice within a couple weeks and I've got my snowblower near the garage door just in case. wink.gif

WOW:Picked up 4 in about a half hr. smirk.gifsmirk.gif Snow that is. No I didn't slam them tonight but i did venture out for a bit. Amidst the snow and wind I hit the bar for about a half hr and notta bump.Headed for Schneibles and found one guy across the riffer from me. Didn't see him land any fish but his light was on and off. Maybe he just enjoyed watching it snow.Yes it was. Had one fish on for a couple cranks then off he went. A few fish surfacing in the riffer but couldn't get them to hit a thing. Even went to a floating roque but to no avail. grin.gifgrin.gif

We got 12++ inches of the white stuff last night, I was cleaning my car off early this morning. My neighbor asked me if I ordered the snow, I said no I wanted just ice and bitter cold tyvm. He is an avid walleye fisherman, but he doesn't go out on the ice as he has diabetes and gets cold fast. I think the long pole fishing has neared its end, but it is supposed to be 40 again this weekend. Mon-Tuesday are gonna be 15 at night, so things might gel soon i'm hoping. Wallys are yummy, but a nice fresh mess of blugills or crappies are tasty too.

Think Cold :-)

passed last night . . .although was encouraged to go . . .hmmm what was that all about. I think someone thought there was a football game on and then she could watch what she wanted. Ha . . .got stuck with me instead. However, could only sit just so long and decided that a couple of 4 and 3 mm jigs needed some gold applied to them . . .just to be ready for the ice in two weeks.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
    • reviving an old thread due to running into the same issue with the same year of house. not expecting anything from yetti and I already have replacement parts ordered and on the way.   I am looking for some input or feedback on how to replace the leaf springs themselves.    If I jack the house up and remove the tire, is it possible to pivot the axel assembly low enough to get to the other end of the leaf spring and remove that one bolt?   Or do I have to remove the entire pivot arm to get to it? Then I also have to factor in brake wire as well then. What a mess   My house is currently an hour away from my home at a relatives, going to go back up and look it over again and try to figure out a game plan.           Above pic is with house lowered on ice, the other end of that leaf is what I need to get to.   above pic is side that middle bolt broke and bottom 2 leafs fell out here is other side that didnt break but you can see bottom half of leaf already did but atleast bolt is still in there here is hub assembly in my garage with house lowered and tires off when I put new tires on it a couple months ago. hopefully I can raise house high enough that it can drop down far enough and not snap brake cable there so I can get to that other end of the leaf spring.
