Cold Feet

I used to get them while hunting but now I don't.

My feet always seem to get tingly on cold mornings like we've had this week. And yes, I have good boots, a little too big to allow for air circulation, and wear a sock combo or polypropelene and wool.

I bought some boot insulators yesterday. They look like giant baby booties in camoflouge that you slip over your boots when you get to stand or blind. The extra layer of insulation is supposed to trap up to 97 percent of the heat coming from your feet/boots and recirculate it around them. Man, those things kept my feet warm this morning and they were sitting on cold dirt in a blind.

I give this crazy contraption my thumbs up!

I have the same problem, my feet get cold. I think it is from back in the day skating at Round Lake park in E.P. with my Bauer Huggers on. I think it did permanent damage. Aren't those foot booties noisy though? I think I need to keep putting toe warmers in my boots, I can't see myself with those huge things on!

WalleyeDan. Nope. They're nice and quiet and very lightweight - less than a pound for both. The brand I have is called artic shield and the bottoms have some sort of black rubberized material. They tighten up around the top of your boots with a drawstring. So they're loose enough for air circulation but not really loose. The past few days weren't the worst but it was below freezing in the morning and that will do it to my toes. They stay cold until the afternoon. But the boot insulators worked excellent yesterday. Don't think I'll need them tonight. LOL. I'm not even earing a coat, just my orange vest. Which reminds me, I need to shower up with the scent killer and get out there!

I switched to smart wool socks a few years ago and they are hands down the best socks I have ever worn.They do not itch as smart wool is the first cutting off the sheep.

Walleye Dan, I really like them. If you're not going hunting late season, wait until the end of the year and Fleet Farm or some place that carries hunting items seasonlly will probably mark them down a good bit. Otherwise, they're about $45-$55 depending on where you go. Make sure you bring your boots along because I don't think the sizing on the back of the packaging is correct. I wear a size 12 boot and I think the extra larges were the right fit.

Harvey Lee, so do you wear any socks under them like polypropelene ones? I got some socks a few weekends ago that are a polypropelene blend. They're medium weight and I've been pulling very thick wool socks over them but the combo takes up a lot of room in the boot. I'm thinking of just going with the polypropelene blend and the boot insulators next time out as a test.

I might also try dropping one of those heater packets in each insulator when the thermometer really drops to see if that makes a difference. Anything that can keep you on stand longer. I learned that this weekend. I got fidgety, not cold, and decided to get out of my blind to take a quick walk, stretch at noon and the next thing I know four deer are rocketing past me. It was my goal to sit still until 2 pm . : P Oh, well, they didn't even see me and were running from something else because they stopped aways off and were looking back in the opposite direction at another property.

i wore light socks this past weekend cause i had to walk a a long ways across some fields to get too my stand..my toes got cold and i had some hand warmers so i put them on the outside on the top of my boots over my toes and it did the trick.

I wear my regular socks and then put the smart wool ones over the others and then my boots.No cold feet.
