From: Fishhead:
July 20 is the date. The Carver access is the place. It is centralized and there is a large park for any activities we may have during the day.

From Dark30:
LUNCH AT NOONISH,A LITTLE PREP/BS AND OFF WE GO! MAYBE WE COULD EVEN INCORPORATE A FRIENDLY LITTLE "CHILI COOK OFF" AT THIS EVENT? I WONDER WHAT CHUB CHILI WOULD TASTE LIKE?

WE'LL HAVE TO CHECK ON "OVERNIGHT" STAYS BUT IT SHOULD BE OK. I KNOW PEOPLE DO STAY THERE, BUILD SMART FIRES, AND DRINK LOTS OFF POP.

From Fishhead:
There are some campsites near the area for RVs but not at the site we will be meeting at.Let us know if you need some numbers to call for reservations and we can hook you up.There are areas that you could pitch a tent along the river. We will have some maps of good spots to try overnite for shorebound anglers.
I will be fishing from a boat and plan on making it a night. There are lots of spots that can accomodate quite a few guys and could set up a "CANOPY". (I have a few in mind allready)Guys can head out on their own if they want or can join up.I kinda planned on doing a little spot hopping earlier in the evening then hitting a sand bar as the night went on for a little recreational fishing

I would be more than happy to show you around the river.I love that river and enjoy sharing my "backyard" with others.

Hi catfish1
Yes this is open to anyone.By your user name I can tell that you must be a seasoned cat man and it would be great to see you there.
This would also be a good event for those who have never catfished before. There will be lots of experianced cat rats there who would be happy to show you there tips and techniques.Stay all day or just show up for the afternoon. This will be a good time.

July 20th is scribed on my Palm Vx, written in bold letters on my desk calender taped to the frige at home, and etched in the bowels of my mind. I will attend without question barring "pre-term" labor. If this were to occur we will be establishing a makeshift riverside birthing room within earshot of the clicker reels.
I'm sincerely hoping to have discovered the most choice holes, and caught and released the largest flathead in the river system prior to this date though. I can hardly wait to get after "CATS" again!!!!

Sounds like the weather was pretty cruddy for the mississippi gathering. Looking forward to this one....maybe the overnight lows won't be in the 30's in July, but who knows....

I'll try to get the father-in-laws boat for that weekend...it's a little better for the river outings.

What's the bait/rigging technique of choice?

(sinker size, setup, line weight, etc.)

For the flatheads I would pack my biggest badest rod with 50lb lined spooled on my biggest badest reel.Add some sinkers in the 1 to 3oz range and some big hooks,4/0 would be finesse fishing these fish.Get some suckers and or chubs and maybee even some small bullheads.I consider a 20lb flathead an average fish and 30lbs are quite common.
For the channel cats spool up with 17lb to 20lb line on a medium heavy rod.You can get away with some smaller hooks but wouldn't use anything less than 2/0.Baits to bring would be chicken liver ,cut sucker, crawlers or you favorite dip or stink bait. You will get a better size fish on the fresh cut bait. Most channels will average around 3 to 5lbs.A 10lb fish is not uncommon and a few may push into the upper teens.
Don't forget to eat your Wheaties!

I may not be able to wait that long.

Fishhead, let me know when you're gonna prefish for the cat gathering. I'll provide that smartfire refreshments (we'll have to invite DARK30 and GRABS). I'll bring my cat boat, bug spray, etc.

Grabs has my cell# and work email or you can email me at [email protected] but I don't check it as often.

I use a basic bottom rig.Weight on the main line to a swivel with a 6"to 12" leader then the hook. There are a lot of different rigs to try but I like to keep it simple. If I am fishing with live bait sometimes I will add a float just ahead of the hook to keep the minnow fighting the float. At the Miss Cat Gathering Canopy Sam was using a float with cut bait and out fished all of us.He said it aided in spreading the scent trail.(keeps the scent trail of the bottom of the river and it disperses further)I think I"ll be playing with that technique also.

Wastewater, if you have room in your river rig,..I am in. Should be a good time,..I had my first taste of river pu... I mean cats,..a few weeks back. And I tell you it was a great fight especially on ultra-light cat tackle!! I am willing to try again,...I am not sure I will be staying the night, but I will be out there if you have room.

I'll try to get out this week/weekend between Chaska and Jordan somewhere. Hopefully I can give a report of good fishing......

This event starts at noon????

Wow, that seems kinda early for Piggy's.

I have to do some husbandly duties in the morning and then go catch some bait. Probably won't get out there till later.

How many people are going to make it???

Everyone add your name(s) than add to the total...

(WASTEWATERGURU + FRIEND PAUL) = 2

I fish.....Therefore I grovel.
