Walleye In Lower Manitou Lake?

Recommended Posts

i have fished up there for a few years for pike, musky and trout. Reports on walleyes are RARE. If they happen they are way up on the upper manitou. And from what I have heard you are talking about people getting one every few years or so...So, if you want to walleye fish, i would go somewhere else, i think you would be wasting you time.

I have heard of Walleyes being caught in the Upper Manitou. Why would Walleyes not make it in Lower Manitou or Esox? Does it have to do with such a strong Smallie population? I've heard that explanation before. I was also wondering about water PH. I have tested some waters at very low PH. Kinda wondered if it had to do with PH and eggs or fry surviving.

I'm going to say lake type and distance.

It is a lake trout lake, which generally don't hold walleyes because of the rock. The Upper has some more shallower soft bottom bays, which might work for the walleyes to reproduce in. The Lower is ROCK ROCK AND MORE ROCK! Not what the walleyes need to reproduce in. Then consider there is abundant food everywhere in the lake, they don't need to travel far from a spawning area (if there are any).
