I agree, I think I read in the MN hunting regulations this typ of product is illegal!

It's only illegal if it contains a food product. I looked at BLB's ingredients and it's perfectly legal. I couldn't find the ingredient list for deer co-cain so I can't say one way of the other. I can say that the molasses-based stuff that's out there would be considered baiting. Rule of thumb - if it's a scent or mineral, it's legal. Adding corn syrup or molasses to your favorite mineral mix would be baiting. If it contains a food base (e.g., molasses, corn), it's illegal. For example, Gander is currently selling a $20 cake that's corn-based. While it looks like a mineral block, it's illegal. Remember, just because they sell it doesn't mean it's legal to hunt over.

I hope that helps.

Buy yourself some good old Morten salt with Iodine and a bottle of Evian or tap water. Head out to the place you see some buck signs and work the salt into the ground. Then water the ground so the salt will leech into it farther.

If you want to see a buck with its head in the ground, this is a proven method. It is also legal and cheap on the wallet. Oh, and make sure the ground is dirt that you are applying salt to and not rocky. It will be easier for the deer to dig a hole.

I put out some deer caine about a month ago. The deer haven't paid much attention to it in one spot. The squirrels seem to like it a lot. I will check another spot tonight. Perhaps there it is all gone and a huge 12 pointer is down on his knees licking up the dirt.....

1 part standard loose stock (white) salt

2 parts red loose cattle mineral

1 part di-calcium phosphate

I buy the stuff at Fleet Farm in 50 pound bags. Dig a hole about 6-10 inches deep, and about three feet across. Mix the materials well. I like to dump each bag in a corner of my Otter trailer, and then pull them all to the center to mix them. Dump the whole works into the hole, and mix some of the dirt from the hole back into the mix. Refresh every six months or so.

It is getting a little late in the season for them to be effective. The deer crave them more in the spring and summer. In may, June, and July, I got tons of pictures of deer digging in the minerals. Once the velvet comes off, buck use drops dramatically. They still give it a sniff, but are more interested in the clover right now.

The great thing about these licks is they give deer the mineral they need and crave once it starts warming up in the spring.

Oh yeah, not to be a wisenhimmer or anything but here goes,I believe the product is called "deer caine"not deer cocaine although deer on cocaine would probably be almost impossible to stick as they would'nt stand in one place to long.c63
