Fun with Saugers

Went to Pool 4 today with a couple buddies, the saugers were snapping (along with an occasional walleye). We decided to not bring live bait (too cold to be reaching into a minnow bucket) and did nothing other than jig plastics. What a blast, vertical jigging with 2 rods (legal on the border water), with lots of very aggressive strikes from the saugers. We caught some dandy's, a couple that were over 3 lbs and a couple more that were over 2 lbs, and a lot of nice eaters. It was a lot of fun and I'm hoping to get back there soon.

Anyone else been down there lately or planning to get down there?

Mille Lacs was on the "maybe" list but we decided to go to the river for a change of pace. Still hoping to get back to Mille Lacs for at least 1 more trip this year.

Have you done anything on Tonka this fall? I've only tried it once, trolling channels after dark, but all we had was a few small fish (not walleyes either).

I don't have a black lund, but this weekend we were fishing out of my buddy's black/tan crestliner.

I'd definately be up for a meeting up with you guys on Pool 4. I don't have any plans set in stone but am "planning" to get down there a few more times, just not sure when it will happen. I'm pretty sure I could find room for 1 or 2 guys in my boat.

I'll throw out a date. How's Nov 11 sound. It would be fun to pair up rather than everyone run his own boat so if you can offer a seat or two speak up. I'm flexible, can bring a boat or happy to jump in with someone else. If Mike has an open seat we might have to raffle it off grin.gif Otherwise I might have to make Joel Nelson go with me and that means broken stuff and trash fish and even worse turkeys.

The 11th is a "maybe" for me. My wife needs to be out of town for work for about 10 days in November and it's screwing up my hunting / fishing plans frown.gif Actually, I can't even make any plans until her trip gets firmed up mad.gif

11th works for me. If I can even remember my way to the river. Almost a month since I have been on the water. I really hope my boat is not too mad at me.

I have some room in my boat, so first come first serve.

Anyone seen my fishing pole? I can't remember where I put it.

I'm halvsies.

Deer fill the freezer better than a limit of walleye fillets, as mine is Italian mafia-style.

However, if deer are harvested, I might have to come down and break a rod or two....maybe even land a buffalo or shad. I'm marking it down!

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
