How's everyones fishing or hunting going?

I haven't wet a lure for over a month now but have been hunting hard. Well as hard has you can with 3 little kids and that job thing.

I was seeing lots of deer bow hunting when the leaves were up. Just havent seen a shooter. But now they have seemed to disappeared around my stands. Havn't seen a deer my last 6 times out in 5 different spots. My theory is they know where I'm at and theres now lots of rut hunters in the public woods, my guess.

I've been out grouse hunting a few times and havn't had any problem finding birds. Now getting a shot off and hitting them is another story. But a few are finding there way to the pan.

Duck hunting the first couple of weeks was unreal. Lots of action with mostly redheads, pintails and ring bills. With kid duty and everyone getting sick I wasn't able to hunt frown.giflast week during the rain/ snow and wind (duck hunters heaven). Bad thing having so many friends that hunt they will let you know what your missing. From what i've heard just about everyone was limited out for 3 days. There was a big push of mallards, teal, pintails, gadwalls, etc. Things have slowed way down now with some fishducks, buffleheads and goldeyes staring to show up.

Lots of hunting left, good luck and take a kid with ya.

Ran,

Do you ever hunt MN for ducks? Shoot me an email if so, it sounds like you really know the ducks around the Twin Ports and I would like to learn more. I have been out on Fish Lake to no avail and even during the wind/snow haven you spoke about. Hope to hear from you...

DS, I've never hunted Mn for ducks. I hunt several different places here in Wi. I work with guys in Duluth who have pretty much given up hunting around that area. They just could'nt find enough birds to keep them going. They use to hunt Rice, Fish and Island I know. They pretty much just take a couple of weeks and head west instead.

Haven't been fishing since last day of laker season. I have only shot 2 grouse so far, and as I said on the archery thread, I lost a nice doe last evening. I will look for her again this afternon after work. Haven't had a chance to do any quackin bird hunting. If it wasn't for work I could get alot more of this done.

Wade, its a sick feeling to wound a animal. I've been there like most hunters. Sounds like your pretty much in a hope to stumble on her mode now. No exit hole and this rain makes it tough. I like to get a bunch of guys together and spread out and do circles. Keep walking the deer trails for a while. Sometimes a wounded doe will stick to the easy routes to travel then fall over next to the trail. Listen for crows and coyotes they can tell you where shes at also.

If nothing else you will know you did your best to recover your deer. Not sure where you hit it but we skin deer at work that have had broadheads in the craziest spots and the deer lived threw it. You never know

Good luck

Got into a stand for the first time in my life on Sunday. Just started picking up bow hunting, and my brother put me up over one of his plots. I was pumped to say the least. I never did see any deer but did have one massive black bear circling around me. Came with in 20 yards and gave me a few snorts. Pretty neat to see, walked backwards out of the woods however with my release clipped to my string. smirk.gif

Now I can't wait to get up there again and I didn't even see a deer.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
