Jalapeno Poppers, Yum! Filled with creme cheese and popcorn shrimp, Question... How does one make them?

Hurry if you have the answer, I have 16 nice Jalapenos, plenty of cream cheese and a bag of popcorn shrimp, waiting for me upstairs.

I just know that if I don't get some guidence, i'm going to ruin something, but I WILL go down trying, if thats what it takes! HEEEELLLLPPP!

My thoughts would be to cut the peppers in half, clean them out and then fill them with your cheese and shrimp. Freeze them and then batter them and then deep fry them. i think the the freezing them will be the most important part for a good end product. Mike89

PS I would like to know how your adventure turns out!!

Mike 89...I certainly will let you know, thanks for getting back. What is with the freezing deal...16 Jalapenos is just about right to make me good and sick! No freezing neccessary on that account?

Grebe: You can also take softened cream cheese and mix it with the shrimp, some of your favorite fresh herbs and maybe some bacon bits or bacos and fill your pepper halves with the mixture and sprinkle on a half and half mix of bread crumbs and parmisan cheese place on a cookie sheet and bake in a preheated 375° oven for about 20 min.

Grebe,

I would also go the oven route. Maybe add a little fresh chive tot he cr. cheese and shrimp. Season salt/pepper and a squeeze of lemon to keep it from gettin gtoo fishy.

Top with the bread crumb/parm mixture

Bake on cookie sheet

sounds good. give a report how they turned out the next day!

FYI- the peppers gain their heat from the thin whitish membrane inside.

What do you prefer to use as a batter/breading when you make these? what works to keep the goo inside? Is it better to freeze the poppers before or after they are dipped in the batter? Sorry for 21 questions I like the poppers and would like to make my own so I can experiment with the filling, I'm thinking some artichoke and maybe some spinach or bacon in with the cream cheese.

Thanks guys....If this keeps up, I might even begin to like cooking! Might even learn something to impress someone!

This should do the trick, I can't try it today, because the plans are made.

Tried some crappies this a.m. got 3 nice ones and let em go. Going up to Mille Lacs this afternoon, a little visiting, a little fishing, a little dining, a little casino and hopefully, alot of winning!

I'll keep you posted when it does go down, which will probably be Sunday.

The only thing I'm thinking for the freezind is will help keep the cheese and other goodies insides the pepper when you fry or bake it, just like the store bought things bu only better!! Just my thoughts from cooking a long time ago with like type things!! Mike89

You guys wanted a report, here is the report! Elvis has left the building...right through the roof!

I have come to the conclusion that I'am a much better eater, then I'am a cooker!

To start, I split and cleaned the 16 Jalapenos....I do believe that my lips swelled up! My head started to itch and I was blinking alot! I had to keep going out on the deck, because I started coughing like a 5 pack a day smoker.

Well, I got through it and put the pieces on a plate in the fridge.

I was'nt going to mess around, I washed my hands two or three times. Went out to Festival to get a Salmon side for smoking, my eye started to itch and without thinking, I rubbed it....cheez!!

Instantly it started to burn and my eye shrunk to about the size of a bullheads! Burn and water, and wrinkle all up, looked like a piece of chewed up bubble gum!

I did'nt even have those bad boys in the oven yet!

Well, made it home with the Salmon and all the fixings I needed for the poppers and commenced to mix up the creme cheese/shrimp mix, loaded the pepper halves, sprinkled with bread crumbs and grated cheese and put them in the preheated oven.

Twenty five minutes later(Wanted to really make sure they were done!) I took them out
checked to make sure the Jalapeno peppers were cooked, let it cool a little bit, cut one in half and I was locked, cocked, and ready to rock! Jalapeno poppers, yum!

My wife warned me that it might be a little hotter then the store bought ones?

I bit into that thing, chewed for a second, and I almost fainted! I staggered over to the chair, light headed and out of breath, it felt like I had been stung by a swarm of bee, everywhere!

I got the *****les head to foot, like I had fiberglass all over me! One lense in my glasses melted right out and one of the bows sagged over my ear like warm cheese!

There must be something wrong here? I eat peppers with just about everything, I put Red Pepper and black pepper on most of my food? We eat alot of homemade Mexican food from our latino relatives and we also eat hot Chinese and Thai food?

I don't know, I guess I'm going to have to give them another try later after they are all the way cooled down. I might end up in the ER but I'm gonna get after them!

I just know that tommarrow I will be able to burn holes in the sofa cushions!

I'm going to get one of the extinguishers out of one of the trucks and put it next to my pillow tonight before I go to bed, just in case the sheet catches fire during the night! Good recipe!

Thought I would let you'all know that I'm O.K., no fires last night, but we are certainly in the flame thrower mode this morning! Cheez!

The fisrt pepper I got ahold of, the picker must have spilled some battery acid on it and never told anyone? Those suckers were good, I mean really good...my wife and I ate about 20 of them between us!

Thank all you guys for your input and I can now say from experience that the recipe works and it is very good.

Maybe someone else out there has another spin on how to get the job done?

Well, I got some Salmon I have to go smoke and try to poison myself with, so I have to get.

Here's a little variation.
Make a slit in the pepper and remove the seeds. Stuff with cream cheese, then wrap the pepper with bacon (use a toothpick to hold it on), then throw on the grill till the bacon is cooked. Whola! Tasty!
