2nd Weekend Excitement??

Recommended Posts

Hill City area had lower-than-expected duck numbers. Pounded out a couple grouse on saturday but the lake we hunted that morning had NO BIRDS anywhere to be found.

Hunted Sunday on the bigwater and shot basically every bird we saw except a pair of mallards.

Bag included:

1 greater scaup (drake)

1 ruddy duck (drake)

3 blue wingers

1 coot (to get the young dog another retrieve)

highlight of the morning was having the flock of 25 bwt workin' the diver dekes as we fumbled to load our guns (we were about to pick up) My bro managed to throw in one shell and drop one and I popped in two shells and doubled. Fun weekend!

I went out saturday evening with 2thepointsetters, We were real patient trying to call them in close. Well it didn't work and I didn't take a shot and he took 3, but no birds. I went to the same spot the next morning my dad, we dicided to shoot at anything "we could reach out and touch" (which pretty much ment anything within 40-50 yards). It worked, we had our limit by 7:30 with no lost ducks or cripples. I guess that just proves good shooting is better than patient shooting. grin.gif

Second weekend was not too good for us. My brother and I only got three green wings and barely seen 20 ducks Sat. morning. Sunday morning seen a lot more ducks ended up with one blue wing and one spoonbill. Had to go in early because of my brother having to work Sunday morning. All in all I was pleased to be out in blind for another weekend of duck hunting.

Farley and anyone else. Please don't take this the wrong way but are those chest waters your 2 friends have on?

Looking at your set up there with that type of boat and a piece of water that doesn't look all that small or shallow it scares the SH@# out of me for you and your friends sake!!

I lost a very good friend that way a couple years back. In about 10 feet of water, same type of boat, a flat bottom job, reaching for a decoy and fell out. The waters filled up so fast he didn't have a chance. No I wasn't with him but another buddy was, it was awful.

If you are going to use the waters please be ULTRA careful or only use them in sloughs where a boat is not in play.

GOOD LUCK & BE CAREFUL!!!

I'm not wearing them in the pic (the other guys are) but yeah at least one of us will usually wear waders for the warmth if nothing else. It's nice to be able to walk out and fix the dekes without having to dislodge the boat from it's hiding spot. I know, it's probably not the safest thing but we try to be smart. We dont always succeed but we try. Sorry to hear about your bud.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
