I have used the Walker's Game Ear Products before. They are expensive but really work nice you can hear a lot more noises than without them. I have pretty good hearing and I noticed a difference. Most will shut off at a certain decibel level so you damage your hearing.

i bought some in ear ones and i never liked them. i got some of the muff style, and i will never go shooting without them ever again! prairie doggin this year with them was a blast, it would cut out the report but you could hear the bulling zinging down range and hear the splat sound when it hit the dog, it was great. i am going to wear them in the deer stand this year and probally the goose and duck blinds because i am sick of ringing ears for 4 days after hunting and with regular ear plug you cannot hear anything. Go for it get some you will be happy!

I use the walker range ear quads. They are great and the best money I've spent considering my hearing is critical in my job.

The two microphones on each side allow you to really hear directionally. The sound you hear is somewhat un-natural since they are digital but you get used to it.

I use them mainly when target/trap shooting, duck hunting so I can hear the ducks coming in as well as my hunting partners talking, deer hunting from a stand (at first every squirrel sounds like a moose though!).

The only downside is pheasant and grouse hunting. The sound of your footsteps through the long grass is a little too much. You can turn them down and adjust the treble/bass sounds which helps though but I prefer to use them for stationary shooting sports more than walking shooting sports.

A few of the group has the muffs and loves them. They are great. They said better than the ear insert ones as they really help to deaden the rifle blasts. They use them for all sorts of hunting but as stated the "white noise" i.e. paper bags crunching and a couple of other things do sound different. A good investment from what I can tell.

I was in the same boat as you earlier this year. I purchased a set of Pro Ears Dimension2. It was great but one side was malfunctioned. So I returned it to Cabelas and purchased a Walkers Game Ear Digital Quad. It was either my hearing problem or the unit that was bad. The sound was not as clear as the Pro Ears. I returned it and purchased another set of Pro Ears Dimension2 stalkers. This time this one worked perfectly. The sound is clearer than Walkers Game Ear unit. The price is cheaper too: like $140 cheaper.

If you go with anything else, the reaction time is too slow and they do not have the sound compression system like the Walkers or Pro Ears: they will cut off for a split second and you will not hear anything during this period. That is not good for stalking.
