I could only find Bismith shot for my kid's .410. $35 dollars a box!! The .410 is a tough gun for a starter. I know everyone does it but at the trap range we go to for the fun shoots we make the best shooters in the group shoot .410's as it is more difficult to hit the mark. I found the shells at a gun shop not a chain store.

i am pretty sure that hevi shot makes some for .410 but again they are going to be pricey. i know .410 is what i started with but as soon as the switch to steel happened my old man bought me a 20 gauge quickly. Don't know if grandpa would be offended but i would probably get a 20 for him. it will cost more but you are going to pay for it eventually in shells anyway sticking with the .410 good luck i hope he get hooked like so many of us have. ike

I bought some Bismuth from Cabela's last year. If I remeber correctly they were something like $15 for a box. A box is only 10 shells.

I have not tried them yet so I have no idea how well they work.

When I was looking (about 5 seasons ago) I could only find bismuth at $35.00 per box (25 shells). I told my son (then 9) that I would buy 2 boxes of the bismuth .410's, and when they were gone, he had to go to a 20 ga. I bought the 20, and he hunted with it long enough (2 days of the next season)to se his friend drop a duck with a 12 ga. After that he went to the 12. Life is good when you can buy all the same shells. BTW, we all now shoot 30-06 rifles for the same reason.

Shoot straight---

Bought a box of the bismuth for my son a few years back, and was thoroughly unimpressed with how they patterned. He managed to ding a couple of ducks and a coot, but I watched him try to get a cripple and the shot went around the duck but not a single pellet hit the duck. We took a couple of shots at paper later, and discovered a very scattered and clumped pattern. Absolutely unacceptable.

We donated the leftover shells to my buddy who has a Contender in .45/.410, and his patterns were awful also.
