I've noticed that some polarized glasses have a mirror coating (blue, yellow etc) on the outside. Does this help cut down the glare or is just style? Also, I've read in archived posts about grey/amber lenses for low light, cloudy, days. I find it too dark wearing my glasses on cloudy days. Should I try glasses without the mirror style fronts in these conditions? Has anyone tried to use shooting glasses (which are yellow) or something else that doesn't make it look so dark outside? I just like to keep my eyes protected from flying lures and the wind on darker days.

brown lenses are great for low light conditions; at least on the stream/river. I would assume the same would be true for lakes...

The mirrored layer doesn't cut down on glare, the polarization layer does that. The mirrored layer cuts down even more light transmission, so they are the best for bright sun. I have used mine in lower light situations and they are OK. The worst part is looking into the water is more difficult than a lighter color without the mirrored layer.

I have two pairs of Maui Jim Hookipa glasses...one grey and one amber. I usually wear the grey ones, but if I happen to be out on a cloudy day, I wear the amber ones. They work great and really brighten things up on those cloudy, gloomy days.

Thanks for the replys. I think I'll try a pair without the mirror fronts.
