St. Croix Smallies

I was up on the St. Coix near Hinckley at St. Croix State Park this last weekend and tried a few cast looking for smallies. I had no luck at all but I am thinking about giving it a better effort this weekend.

Any advice on where to look or what to use for bait/lures? I haven't fished for smallies much and never really in a river so any tips would be great.

Next time I will be in a canoe most likely so I should be able to cover more water.

I too would love to hit that stretch of river.. I know there is a club that fishes it from float rafts and such with fly gear and do pretty good...

I myself would just use normal smallie stuff.. mepps spinners, senko tyle, craw lures..ect... Topwater is probably good to go as well.
