Gas Lights

The Humphrey LP Gas Lights that they show are probably the most popular. We have these all over in our Deer hunting trailer and they work great every year. I think they are probably the best and they are for sure the most popular. One thing to remember with this style of light you need the Humphrey mantels. Mantels from Coleman will work but it doesn't give the light that it should. At Mills Fleet Farm you can find Paulin LP gas light but they are the exact same as the humphrey they are one and the same.

IFF, I was recently at Fleet Farm looking for replacement parts for my Paulin/Humphrey gas light (I believe Paulin bought Humphrey). Couldn't find anything other than Coleman. I was looking in the sporting goods section and the kid said that's all they had.

Any idea what department the gas lights are in?

Sometimes it is hit or miss to find them at fleet farm. I think my dad found them in the plumbing/heating section once. I know once I was looking for them and they had the lights but no replacement mantles in the sporting good area. But I see that Fishhouse supply does have replacement mantles. The coleman will work but it doesn't give the amount of light that the light is capable of producing. Replacement Mantles

deepportage, interesting about the preformed mantels. Would you say they last a lot longer than the soft tie-on mantels?

I need a new burner nose anyway. Don't suppose you know if the preformed mantel fitting burner nose would fit in place of the tie-on mantel fitting burner nose??

Anyone know of a walk-in store that supplies this stuff?? Much easier to return the stuff if it doesn't work out for some reason, rather than buying on-line.

Since these led lights are so bright, where do you put them in the shack so you dont have to stare at them? I guess i am a little confused, maybe to light up your hole? Wouldnt that scare the fish or maybe not cause its so deep? Stupid question, but just wondering.

Nytelyter, are you using the pre formed mantels from fish house supply? if so, It sounds to me like you have too much psi or a high psi regulator, some of those big regulators on twin 100lb tanks are over for a fish house. If your out on the big pond this winter send me an email I'll take a look at what ya got going on with the poof thing.

welll yes i am running two hondos on my shack but only one on at a time and each has their own regulator. i dont keep it on the pond and i also have the right tips on them. it is like the have been touched or have something on them. that causes them to just burn thru and then they are done. maybe i will hit up fhs and try again but at 4+ bucks a poof it gets kinda of spendy. man i hope it freezes soon i cant wait to hit the ice. ... paul

I have not mouted any in my shack yet I'm not to that point yet but I have tested them out and one 5 bulb LED should be mounted inbetween two holes about four feet up +- I will let ya know as soon I find the proper placement, I don't think you want them directly over a hole but thats just me.You can get them to fit allmost any 12v light and if brightness is a consern just put them in somesort light fixture with a globe/plastic cover to dampen the light. The fixtures I have shine strait and also have a plastic cover so theyt don't burn your eyes when ya look at them.

If we are still talkin about gas lights here, I will say that in a larger perm shack- where the house is not constantly bouncin around- they are great. We have two gas lights in our perm- understand they are the gift that keeps on giving- you get some btu's of heat from them- I used to know how many, it's like 2,000 I think.

Best to have some 12 volt lights and some gas, at least in a perm. The LED's certainly the rage!

I have a wheel house that has a gas light in it and I tried the preformed and like Pual mine burned out right away. I use the clip on now and they hold up great even with the bouncing down ice roads. I found parts at my local baitshop.

I upgraded to the preformed mantels and have had mixed results. The first few turned into ash after the first use, but I was able to use them at least once.

The current mantle I'm using (knocking on wood) has been in use for over a year now and it has been on lots of bumpy rides.

I wonder if somewhere at the mfg plant, people may have mishandled some of the ones that turn to ash? All I know is the one I'm currently using has been lit and relit at least 100 times and it's still going strong.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
