Tiller question

Hey guys, I have recently purchased a new boat with a 50HP evinrude tiller. I absolutely love the boat but have 1 issue I was hoping some of you could help me with. My motor seems to pull very hard as I open the throttle up. By the time I get to wide open throttle I actually have a hard time holding the boat in a straight line. I am set up so I run the tiller with my left arm. The Motor pulls away from me making the boat want to turn right constantly. its like driving a car with a very bad alignment. I tried to tighten up the motor so it wont turn so easy but that hasn't really helped. I know I am making myself look like a wimp but My arm is tired and need some advice. Thanks in advance.

Brand new eh'?

Trimming up will help, however, it shouldn't pull that hard.

Your trim tab is the likely culprit, and needs adjustment.

It's the tab bolted to the bottom rear of the cavitation plate above and behind the prop.

It acts as a "balancing mechanism" to counter to rotation of the prop.

My guess is that it's adjusted so it is cocked to one side.

If you are getting as much pull as you describe, I'd loosen the bolt, and adjust it to the opposite side in equal displacement to how far it is off center now.

We thought you were a wimp now we know....

JUST KIDDING !!! Don't take me wrong, I couldn't resist... grin.gif

Anyway, there is a small silver fin (trim tab) under the cavitation plate of motor, you have to losen bolt and turn it the way motor pulls, that should help.
