Luck e 1
Going to Canada...I have been told that many people don't use live bait. Is it a must to bring scented lures (Gulp, Power bait...) or, do the non-scented variety produce as well. Also, do people have favorite colors for curly tailed grubs? watertower
white for me and scent has never mattered to me.There are time up there when that will out fish live bait......just depends on how your fishing and what for?good luck have fun. IMO fish dont bite based on smell as much as they bite out of instict.
Shorelunch
I'm a fan of trolling with Gulp at LOW. Reason being is that the water is pretty stained and there's plenty of green in the water too right now, so the scent and the "taste" are a bonus for catching fish.I like the pumpkin seed crawlers and black and silver smelt minnows for trolling. I've also had decent success with grubs too - I live black and silver Munchies and white or chartreuse Power Bait grubs. I like live bait up there too, especially minnows for jigging, but if I can get away with plastics I will.
cedarnarrowsguy
White has always been a favorite of mine and very productive too. I usually start out with somekind of live bait on my gulp or power bait, then when we find'em I don't put any live bait on. That way i can catch more and not bother the guy in the middle of the boat asking for more minnows, etc....GOOD LUCK!
1tofish
I used a lot of Gulp Minnow Grubs and Gulp Smelt on my trip to the English River a couple of weeks ago. I did just as good if not better than leeches. Just the time saving on not re-baiting is an added benefit. Chartrusse and I think it called Watermelon (a dark green) is what I used. iffwalleyes
Gulp kick butt for me at Lac Seul a week ago. I made a little combo cocktail for the fish. I still used a worm or minneow or leech in addition to the gulp and it worked very well for me. Seemed if they hit short and pulled of the bait the would come back and hit it again a second time with just the gulp.
Luck e 1
Thanks for the info. I am willing to spend the money on GUlp, but I do have some limited funds...so I'll bet a combination of Gulp, power bait, and unsencted cheapies will be the ticket.
