Food Plots

Recommended Posts

Went out yesterday afternoon to check my food plots and put up a portable deer stand. I have very sandy soil so I was afraid of it drying out/heating up. In the areas where the shade was is where i had the best luck. In one spot i spread soybeans/Alfalfa/Canola. The alfalfa is growing like crazy and the soybeans are partially emerging. It was a 1.5 A spot where i put that. In my 2 acre spot I put just alfalfa and you can see exactly where the trees shad on it because where the shade is there is alfalfa. In my dads spot which was a lot more shadier and I didn't know for sure what was going to happen I put it on thick there. Again where there was some shade the stuff grew. I did soybeans/canola/alfalfa and everything is growing pretty good I am actually shocked. we got soybeans about 3-4 inches tall and alfalfa/clover about 1-2 inches tall already. But didn't see no tracks but it don't help that it poured the night before. I do have a question though. They logged off part of the woods. We spread some Canola/Alfalfa out there in the openings but what do people recomend for trying to get some ground cover started? I guess they logged it out and now there isn't anything green on the ground any more and I'm kinda worried about washout/no food. I did see a lot of weeds growing and I guess we did spread some canola/alfalfa out on top of some of the spots but has anyone had any previous experience with this and would mind showing me in a right direction. I just dont' know if we should let it be natural or help it out a little bit.

Thanks
