Good Flourocarbon

I am looking at getting floroucarbon for one of my rods and am wondering what you guys think is a good quality brand. Currently I have berkley vanish and have had to many break offs. I've heard a lot about this Gamma line and P-line. Do they make a good flourocarbon lines?

I'm looking to use it on a 6'6" baitcaster, its a rod I use for a lot of baits and I like the low stretch of floro for short line presentations around docks and shallow cover.

I would go out and buy some and find what I like on my own, but the stuff is a little more expensive and don't feel like wasting money on bad line. Thanks for any replys.

First off what pound test do you use? All flouro gets brittle when you start getting into the 14 lb plus category. I personally have had no problem with 4 and 8 lb vanish transition. Just remember to retie after every fish.

I used to use vanish exclusively but have switched to Gamma and been very satisfied. I too had fish break off on vanish but I have had fish break off on other lines so I can not say vanish is at fault I just like the performance I get with the Gamma. I use 8-10lb depending on the reel or setup I am using. I do a lot of drop shotting and have had good success with landing fish without any break offs. Someone told me the reason they call it Vanish is because it makes your fish disappear. I have a Friend that uses p-line and loves it. I was not happy with it. I would suggest trying different lines until you find the one that works best for you. Kinda like shoes you need the best fit for you!! Good Fishing!!

I have tried a ton of different "light" lines this year and have been really disappointed, Tectan from Cabelas which is a mono, absolutely sucks, breaks, no abrasion resistance, and coils like you wouldnt believe (on a baitcaster) Pline cx premium which is a floro coated mono, also stunk, had 14-16" smallies breaking me off at will with a properly set drag and retieng after everysingle fish, Vanish is probably the best I tried but I found it degrades quick due to UV and other factors so you have to respool often and its not cheap. Neither of the Suffix lines I tried were mono, but I am happy with both I have 6 pound on one of my spinning rods and could haul in a small tree with it, and 10 pound on my crankbait rod, the only break Ive had on that was a loon stabbing at my fish and cutting the line (thats a whole nother story) I know Gamma is supposed to be the cats meow but at near $30 a spool I'll wait till the jury's out on it, I already know one person who tried it and didnt like it so Im a little skeptical

I too went to Gamma this year after seeing them at the sportshow this last winter... Very impressed, but not easy on the wallet!... However, I have felt it was worth every penny so far!

I only use Floro on my jigworm rod and my crankbait rods.

River rat i am wondering if you have a guide or two that is checking or cracked. I have had this problem in the past and didn't even know it until an old fishing guide told me to take a q-tip and run it very lightly around all my guides on my rod and much to my supprise it pulled just a little bit of cotton in a few spots and those were the culprits for slowly and surely cutting my line. Just thought i would share that with you cause you have gone through some line. ike

Thanks for the replys,

I think if I changed my line more often I would have better results with vanish. I notice it does get beat up pretty quick compared to other lines. I was looking to use this line mainly for deep water, and some short line presentations shallow. Maybe a lighter braid would be a better choice.

I've just got into using those All Terrain Rock jigs (a football jig) with a spider grub, and thought that a 14-16lb floro line would be good for that deep water presentation. I may just stick with braid, or try out the other brands of floro.

thanks again
